Caprica is being billed as the prequel to the reimagining of the 2004 BSG series. Though it does change things so it is not an all out prequel.

I saw it online last year. It was aired on TV I believe yesterday.

Anyone check it out?

DallasEast? :D

I liked it. It was done well. I would give it a 8 our of 10. The series starts tonight, friday.

I need to go ahead and complete the last couple of episodes of the 2004 Series.

Unfortunately, I just started watching Dexter Season 4, so it is going to be hard to switch back to BSG.

The previews I saw made it sound more like a soap opera than a scifi action type series.

Just did not look good at all so I have not bothered with it.

Its actually different enough that you dont need to see the whole BSG series to understand it. It could be a standalone.

Its not soap opera. Its a "how it all began". How things are conceived and perceived and then executed to become what is reality.

Is BSG "Battlestar Galactica"?

SyFy actually aired the premiere episode last Friday. During the first minute, it states that what takes place occurred "58 years" before the Cylon attack on the colonies. If events happen before BSG re-imagined, how is that not a prequel?

I can already see where the theology and terrorism plotlines turn some off, but I believe they have set a strong foundation for the entire series. It's much stronger premise than Stargate:Universe, which has been disappointing for me thus far.

Right now, I would give the show a seven out of ten. There are a few things I want clarified first before giving it a stronger rating. For instance, Graystone promised Adama that he could bring his daughter back. Graystone has a virtual digital copy of his own daughter (Zoe) to work with, which was his daughter's creation based on her own neural patterns. He created the virtual copy of Adama's daughter from raw data. How can that be "her"?

Graystone could not create a Cylon which was not intuitive enough to react quickly enough to outside stimuli. It was only because Zoe was inside his prototype that it preformed so well before the president and her military advisors. How will he finally be able to incorporate Zoe's "essense" into his production line of Cylons?

How extensive is the group behind the religious revolt? The headmaster of Zoe's prep school belongs to the group. If these events happened decades before BSG re-imagined, why wasn't it more prevalent on the show among the surviving humans?

I will be watching tonight's episode for more clues. :)

Not my words friend. :) The director , Ron Moore said so himself. He has chosen to make it a hybrid of sorts. Follow a good part of the BSG storyline but deviate when he feels he wants to.

Agreed on strong foundation and I dont mind the theology and terrorism ties-ins.

Yeah they glazed over Tamara's avatar too easily. Maybe there was as much of her in there as Zoey? I dunno..

I like interacting with you. Learn more about this.

Was that Zoey in that cylon or was that a cylon with a replica design of the stolen "chip"? that allowed it to perform well?

I thought Zoey was put away and that was a different cylon??

Weird. :)

That's the thing. If Graystone integrated parts of Zoe's avatar into Tamara's, it's not really Tamara. Her father should be able to pick that up right away.

He (Graystone) explained what he did to created Tamara's avatar before taking her father into the virtual room to meet her. If he was being literal, her avatar is made of pure raw data pulled from as many sources as Graystone could find. There is no "blueprint" of her virtual copy.

On the other hand, Zoe's avatar was copied from her own brainwave patterns. For all intents and purpose, it IS the same as her biological self.

There was only one Cylon prototype, so that was Zoe inside its metal shell. The stolen chip was the key to combining her essense with the Cylon since it was able to process far more data more quickly than anything Graystone had created himself.

I think they left it up to the viewer to assume that "hey this works and here is the other girl" - yeah they cut corners... but the beginnings, the blueprint is there.

How do you know there is only one cylon robot?
The more I think about it the more I think you are right but how do we know?

I have the unedited version from itunes. That Zoey is going to be quite the little trouble maker.

I will have to refer to my recording of the pilot episode, but I am almost certain that Graystone and/or his assistant referred to the Cylon seen in the corporate demonstration room as the one and only prototype.

In any BSG thread, the phrase is "What the frak?" and not that censored stuff you're always trying to get away with. :p: :D

I have not seen the broadcast version. But I assume the nudity was removed. "Trouble'' Zoey is a true believer.

This.

I love BSG but without space, the desperation of finding earth, Starbuck's crazy ***, the Cylon intrigue, base ships, etc, it's not BSG. It's just a soap opera., I wouldn't be surprised if it gets canceled. I used to talk to people about BSG at work every week and so far none of those people, including myself, has been all that interested in Caprica.

Looks like I was only partially right. So far, tonight's episode has explained that Zoe was placed in the prototype, but Graystone has already produced a number of Cylon copies for testing purposes also.
