FINALLY!
It took awhile, but I finally had the chance to watch eight episodes which had piled up for me UNinterrupted.
What can I say?
Caprica's first season developed very well. To me, it's still not on par with the re-imagined
Battlestar Galactica, yet, but it came close.
They have managed to deliver what was promised, which was a story which explains the origin of the
BSG era WITHOUT it being a carbon copy of it. At first, I thought that
Caprica's timeline was way too close to that of
BSG, but that too is shaping up nicely enough to fit everything in, namely the rise of the Cylons, the rebellion, the war, their seclusion from the twelve colonies and their re-emergence.
It's great seeing them continue the franchise practice of killing off important or major characters such as Amanda Graystone. Even though anyone could see it coming, which all the hints of past suicide attempts and teenage mental illness injected into the show's theme, it still jolted any sense of cast complacency. That opens up new opportunities for newer character tie-ins with Daniel Graystone (played outstandingly by Eric Stoltz in my opinion). I'm as interested in finding out how Graystone will survive without his wife AND possibly his company as in Zoe's future as the first Cylon.
Hopefully, the second part of the first season (just like
BSG and other SyFy original series, they claim that it's a finale, but it really isn't technically the final episode of the season
) will focus more on the Tauron people. Joseph Adama's brother Sam is cold-blooded son of a you know what, but really cares about his family--as seemingly befitting of his Tauron heritage. Joseph, on the other hand, seems to be an atypical Tauron and is a wimp at heart.
I do like how they are matching him with Teryl Rothery's character Evelyn though. Some will disagree, but I have always thought Rothery as very attractive since she starred on
Stargate SG-1 even though she is in her late 40's now. Then again, I'm in my mid-40's, so who gives a damn?
I'm glad she was made a part of the show.
They should do a lot more work explaining the origins of the STO cells also. Something began to motivated the certain citizens of the twelve colonies to adopt a single deity over that of various demi-gods. What was the trigger? That's a mystery I would like them to delve into big time.
William Adama is mentally a messed up kid with a practical mind. That seems like a contradiction, but it would really explain how the character eventually grew into Admiral Adama. I liked that a lot, especially seeing it displayed during the scene where Joseph Adama took his son fishing. The bully had it coming. Hilarious!
At first glanced, I hated the holo-ban angle. They never needed it for
BSG, so why add it now? That was my own shortsightedness and genius on the part of the show's creators. It's an excellent bridge connecting the real world with an artificial one and will help provide more explanations for how Cylon consciousness will continue to evolve beyond Zoe (or, at least, that's my expectation).
I could go on and on, but on to some questions.Yeah. During
BSG, I thought it had some huge cosmic meaning, but now I see it as part of the twelve colonies/religious mythos. As in Zoe the Cylon rebelling? Sure thing. If not for her, the Cylons would've never tried to become more humanlike and eventually give birth to the Number Sixes.
Like most of us at some time in our lives, she's wanting answers to "why" she is here and she believes the answers are on Geminon. Whether it's original Zoe or avatar Zoe, she's gotta know, you know?
If I recall correctly, Sister Clarice knew of Zoe's intentions of creating avatar Zoe, which she hoped could somehow explain a divine connection with the one God. That's my interpretation of her interest in Zoe. How far she wants to tie Amanda destiny with that of Zoe/Avatar Zoe is anyone's guess, but I can foresee a type of "mother of divinity" association which this show's creators are willing to dare as demonstated in the past on
BSG.Tamara hates where she is, but she's coming to grips with who she is now. I could be wrong, but I think she will play a MAJOR role in Cylon race's evolution. My thoughts are that it's going to take more than just Zoe to become the foundation of Cylon existence. JMO.
If they referred to the Final Five, I missed it. There haven't been any character tie-ins that I can remember. The closest thing to catching one for me was seeing Rekha Sharma (President Roslen's (sp?) aide Tory Foster) on
ABC's V. Who knows?
:
That's it for now. I can't wait for the series to kick back up later this year ( :crossed: ). Sorry it took this long to reply. Life can throw you a few curveballs sometimes and keep ya from doing what you wanna do.
