Cardinals offensive ranks with new Cowboys OC Klayton Adams

The Cardinals didn’t just have a strong running game, though. They excelled in pass protection too: their 28.0% pressure rate was the sixth-best in the league, ranking one spot ahead of the Cowboys, despite losing both starting tackles to injured reserve and playing with a quarterback in Kyler Murray whose frequent scrambling ability often makes it harder on the offensive line to hold up.

Part of this was accomplished through an insanely high play-action rate, something Schottenheimer has already mentioned as a priority for his offense. Only three other quarterbacks had a higher play-action rate than Murray this year, and only four quarterbacks threw for more yards off play-action.

One other point to consider with Adams’ hiring: the tight end position. Outside of the offensive line, Adams has spent the most time in his career working with the tight end position, and Trey McBride became a focal point for the Cardinals this year. He finished one catch behind rookie sensation Brock Bowers for most receptions in the league, and McBride’s 1,146 yards, 526 yards after the catch, and 2.14 yards per route run all ranked second in the league as well. That background could potentially be impactful for Jake Ferguson, who’s coming off a bit of a down year and enters the final season of his rookie contract.

Ace running back and Prescott both benefit.

Team better find a way to get a running back that scares defenses. Probably two of them in today's NFL.

For a slightly positive spin, all of Dak's metrics look good when the run game looks good. If you want to win with Dak, don't try to turn him into Mahomes. He needs to be a bus driver.

I think we'll draft one and re-sign Dowdle. I wouldn't mind if we drafted two, though. Might depend on what the new staff thinks of Vaughn.

It's funny because I thought No-Schott and the OC coach he brought with him were the reason why we ran so much inside zone, but then No-Schott brings in an offensive coordinator who is much more balanced with his running attack. Of course, maybe the OC was picked by the Joneses.

Now I just hope they move away from this single RB stuff, and go to a two RB system.

Listen, I know everything remains unknown- but I am happy with what appears to be a new direction for this team. And that's focusing on the run game. It's refreshing and I hope they stick to it. I always felt MM really had little interest in running the ball, even though he would talk it up. Now, be sure to grab a RB in the draft.

I wonder how much of those stats are influenced by having a dual-threat QB the past 2 seasons though? Kyler ran for 500 yards in 2024 and in 2023, he split the season with Josh Dobbs and they combined for 500. That kind of rushing from the QB position is definitely not happening here!

There will be no focus on the running game. I can't believe how so many peeps here forget who run Cowboys town. Dak gets paid to throw the ball and we will throw the ball. Maybe the run game is complementary and we have success, maybe not. Jerral already had the fireside chat with Schotty and reinforced how it is going to be.

Good to hear there will actually be emphasis on the run game. I would presume this means they will prioritize RBs in the offseason too.

With that, the gaze immediately turns to the Cardinals list of 2025 free agents, and it just so happens that several of their offensive linemen are free agents. Three of those are of particular interest to Dallas.

First and foremost is Kelvin Beachum. The 13-year veteran is still going strong at 36-years old, grading at a 75.4 (out of 100) in pass protection according to Pro Football Focus. In fact, Beachum has graded out green or better (green and blue are the positive ranges) every season since his rookie campaign in 2012.

With Dallas having to give serious consideration to replacing Terence Steele this offseason, Beachum may be the perfect bridge player. In fact, two of his three highest-graded games were as the starter at left tackle. At minimum, Beachum should be an immediate addition as the club’s swing tackle, and then Dallas can consider things from there.

Also to be considered is Evan Brown. LG

RG Henderson was a second-round pick of the New York Giants, No. 34

Jerry Jones is not paying Lamb over $30 million per season and Dak $60 million per season to hand the ball off to Rico Dowdle and a rookie out of the Mountain West Conference. No fan here has any clue what the collective results of this new coaching staff will be. Those claiming it looks encouraging are expressing unsubstantiated hope because that’s all Jerry leaves for Cowboys fans.

This makeshift late in the process staff is not going to have this team competing for the playoffs anytime soon. Their initial goal should be winning more games than the Giants. That will be challenging enough.

Dallas doesn't have the horses that Arizona had. OL did come on stronger as the season went but as of now they have no RB and the QB isn't a threat to run.. gotta hope they do enough in free agency and draft to fix this.

The Joneses have never heard of the Cardinals OL coach.
