Carlos Watkins came out with some bounce at Tuesday's practice, literally leap frogging a standing tackling dummy. That's an impressive feat for a man weighing in at 6'3, 300 pounds. The fifth year defensive tackle, former fourth-round pick ,was very impressive showing powerful hands in reaction drills. Watkins is athletic and maintains balance when engaged. He's a very good striker with above average bend.

I think Cowboys have done well in addressing the interior DL and I think Watkins has a chance to make an impact on this DL with his size and agility

I think he's a little bit longer, but he's basically the same player as Antwaun Woods.

Good depth guy is basically his ceiling.

Was never a Woods fan so I'm good with Watkins.

Probably a slight upgrade, but nothing to be excited about.

The position is still a major concern IMO.

I wouldn't call Urban a given by any means, and I think fans may be expecting a bit much out of Bohanna.

I like seeing the batted balls. doesn't seem like we get nearly enough of those out of our DL

They could do a Jersey Swap and you wouldn't see much difference.

if nothing else our run defense should improve...by a lot, given how sucky they were last year....with Poe, who all he did was stand up and look around. and woods, who ran in mud. competition is a good thing.

He may have to shift from DE to DT to see playing time this season.

yeah the killer of this defense was the inability to stop the run, having guys like Urban and Watkins along with the youth brought in should help shore up this run defense. If teams continue to run at will on the Cowboys all the pass rusher and CB don't mean a damn thing. Cowboys must be able to win in the trenches and must shut down the run.

not only that, the LBs were often in the wrong position, hitting wrong holes. LVE and Smith, both. the DL couldn't peneterate, creating running lanes. RBs picked and chose and they were 3 yards deep before they even saw a defender. Smith was bad particularly in space and got abused. not only that, the DEs outside of lawrence often failed to maintain outside containment. it was the absolute worst run defensive performance I have ever seen. just plain comedy.

What I saw were LB being too aggressive trying to make plays as opposed to maintaining discipline and their responsibility. I saw way too often LB over pursuing and running themselves out of the play. Guys have got to know their responsibility and carry it out not trying to be the hero. Defense works because every player carries out their assignment when you have a break down in assignment you leave big gaps that can be exploited

And I think you'd have been excited if they fattened up Jerry Jones Jr. and put him out there.

Carlos Watkins is a roster filling JAG. This is not what a team does to address a glaring hole.

I watched some videos of Watson playing for the Texans. He strikes me as a cookie cutter Cowboys DT. He is just a body. I don't think he is better than Hill or Gallimore. He looks like another Justin Hamilton to me.

Watkins is a talented underachiever. If we have someone who can unlock the talent, he has the ability to be a high level starter.
