Does anyone else see any similarities? When I think of both players the word "tenacious" comes to mind. We've already seen glimpses of it from Carp and we all know Randy White was a beast that played very much like an overachiever. They're similar in size and both wear the same number. Perhaps Carp is a Randy White fan.

# 54 Bobby Carpenter
Position: LB
Height: 6-2
Weight: 257

# 54 Randy White
Height: 6ft 4 inches
Weight: 257 lbs

He chose #54 for a reason. He didn't wear it in college. I was a gigantic Randy White fan and I have quickly become a Carp fan as well. Here's to more good things from Carp in the years to come hopefully at the MLB position as well. :toast2:

Wow! I was a big Randy White fan as well. There are some physical similarities, lets hope his play improves so that we can compare there as well. I'm rooting for him. Rah Rah Carp!:D

My younger brother had problems with bowel movements. While sitting atop the throne, dead serious on the task at hand, reminded me of Don Knotts.
Tenacious does come to mind and my little brother, every once in awhile, was an overacheiver. WHEW! DO NOT go in there!!

Don Knotts
Position: Deputy (once a fish)
Height: 5' 6½"
Weight:132 lbs

Brother
Position:Hunched over
Height:5' 9-1/2"
Weight:133 (when empty)

:p:

My jury's still out with the comparison. Wanna make sure it's not the number, rather the current player. :) I do like Carpenter. I thnk he'll do well with Wades football philosphy.

Too soon for me to make that comparison and they play different positions, though Randy was a LB for a time. I'm one of Carpenter's biggest fans. Last year when he wasn't active for games I was telling everyone to be patient. I will be thrilled if he can live up to another former #54 who did play LB...Chuck Howley.

Other than wearing the same number, I have not seen any these 2 players have in common. We really have only seen one decent game from Carp and to find similarities to a all time great like Randy White is premature based on that.

BTW, I'm glad you changed your sig pic Bleu. Much better.

I'm more hoping than anything else I guess. If Carp can live up to half of what Randy did for this team then we've found ourselves a cornerstone.

Hopefully not for too much longer. I hope Wade moves Carp inside and lets him loose ala Donnie Edwards. We need someone inside that can make a tackle but can also cover a TE in space. Bradie is not the answer. Godfrey would be a stop gap but he's in his twilight. I'm constructing "Carp @ MLB" picket signs right now.

Are you talking about the Terrell King beating? I was just having some photoshop fun. I apologize to anyone that might have been offended by it. ;) The guy does take a beating though.

hmmm... I wonder if this post was racist... #54...Caucasian....Dallas Cowboy... are you trying to tell me poster that all #54 Caucasian Dallas Cowboy football players look alike to you....because outside of the number they ain't one iota alike except in skin color...if you must draw a comparison try Al Singleton..I believe that would be a lot closer to the mark...or maybe Dixon Edwards, Myles Gottfried...Because they are LB's... R. White all though drafted as a LBer played DT... White sucked as a LBer... there styles differ by oceans... White was a brawler... Carp is all finesse ...sheesh name one thing they do/have in common as a player outside of the 54, white, plays for the cowboys and things you don't know like levels of tenacity, nastyness, etc...

Carpenter didn't seem like much playing on the inside- he didn't seem aggressive enough, too much time thinking and not getting in on many plays. I was beginning to doubt the value of having selected him in the first round.

And then he was moved to the OLB spot and the kid took off like a rocket. He was active, aggressive and effective. Carpenter was putting on a clinic of his own at the end of the season. He will be a great player for us so long as he is allowd to play his natural poaition. I have a feeling that we haven't seen the best from Carp just yet.

I want some of what you are smoking.

At this point comparing the two is optimistic at best. Hos also made the point they played different positions.

I havent seen enough out of Carpenter to put him in the conversation for comparison to a legendary HOF'er. But I will say that late season he did have some good moments, that seemed promising.

Carp has a mean streak in him. I've seen it already. Randy had one as well. Hence the word tenacious... You're going nowhere with your assumption of what this post was about. I simply hope Carp turns out to be half the player Randy was. I guess he just chose #54 because he rolled a five and a four out in back of VR during the annual rookie crap shoot challenge.

Fact:
They play two different positions.

Personal Desire:
To have Wade move him to MLB for good to anchor the D.

Carry on.

They do strangely have the same build and even kind of move the same way, but other than that there's nothing in common other than the number. Carpenter will never be 1/100th the player The Manster was.

I think it's far too early to draw any comparisons between the two other than the number on the jersey. While I would love to see Carpenter develop and become the same type of player that White was, however - at this point in time, I haven't seen enough of Carpenter to even consider him in a comparison with White's abilities and level of consistent play, it's just far too early.

Agree with the one poster who wants Carpenter to play OLB. I also thought he just played much more aggressive from that position maybe because of his familiarity with it. Also think that's where we need him depending on Ellis returning capabilities. Don't know how Burnett yet figures in the mix and same goes for Junior Glymph & Oliver Hoyte (if returns to LB position instead of FB).

Considering he just finished his rookie year I hope not also.

Carpenter can play either position IMO, but his pass rushing ability is utilized better at OLB. I like Burnett's athleticism, but I think his size is going to limit his snaps on any 3-4 team. I don't believe he'll ever be a starter in a cowboys uniform.

As for Hoyte, I think it was pretty clear that he's not an answer at linebacker. If he was, he would never have been tried at FB, he would have been developed at LB. I seem to recall something about him being far too stiff to play LB in the pros.

I think Carpenter will be fine at OLB this year. I'd like to draft tweeners like Zak Deossie as the measurables can't be ignored. If we could get a prospect like him to pan out at OLB, I'd like to move Carpenter back inside. Having three or four guys line up behind our front three that can play every linebacker position would be incredibly beneficial.

Just in case any of your Carp fans want a Carpenter sig pic, this is available.

As far as the Randy White comparisons...it's kinda early for that...one thing I will say though, it appears that Carpenter has the same motor.

Now if he can show the same focus and intensity, we might have a gem.
