Carpenter is improving

I've read & heard in last 1-2 weeks that Carpenter really now seems to be coming along. Just yesterday I heard Grizz on DCFanatics discussing our game against the Falcons. In response to host request for his best defensive player, Grizz cited Carpenter (not Ware as I expected). Grizz stated that Carpenter had really been coming on in just the last month--noticeable difference from beginning of month til end of month. He specifically referred to several plays that Carpenter had made in the Atlanta game and that he was getting off blocks better, contains better, etc.

In Parcells' PC he also mentioned Carpenter's improved play. Just wanted to reimphasize that it looks like our first round player is coming along and should see more playing time. Sorry I can't provide much specific details re Carpenter's play cause I didn't see the game here in Tampa.

Now all we can hope for is that Watkins also continues come on. Sure would be nice to have both OLB & FS positions more or less settled even if their best performances won't be until 07 season.

Well if people didnt get all over Carps case right off the bat and have such high hopes we wouldnt need posts like this.

Did people call Carson Palmer a bust after his 1st year?

We were already LB heavy and I didnt expect Carp to make a huge impact.

He has shown good sparks lately and I hope he continues to prove those who said he was a bust wrong.

Neither positions will be left to the draft. We'll probably sign players in both spots in free agency.

If Ellis was still healthy Carp would still be called a huge bust around here.

You got it.

Carson Palmer didnt even play his rookie year... would you guys have given up on him?

1st round draft picks dont nessassarily have to make an impact their 1st year.

Don't forget back-up QB.

I noticed Carpenter looked good against Atlanta. Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe that he was even the spy on Vick on a few plays.

And a damn good job it was spying on Vick, he's a better athlete than I thought.

The game is slowing down for him.

We are all waiting for TO to have a breakout game... it just may be Carpenter who does on Monday. He did well against Vick

Thanks for the good read. We can only hope Carpenter will continue to improve.

About TO, if you told me before the season started that TO would break his hand, have an accidental overdose, tear a tendon in his ring finger, and still manage to catch over 80 passes and score 11+ TD's, I would've more than happy. What exactly were some of you expecting?

This makes no sense. He had a good game against Atlanta. Other than that he hasn't done much at all. I guess you could call 4-5 straight average performances and one good game improvement, but I wouldn't say he's coming on in the last month. It's not like he was gradually getting better. He had a good game. Maybe we will see some continued improvement after this game, but to say there was any improvment before the game is just wrong.

Hell, Grizz wrote an article a little over two weeks ago about how Carpenter wasn't doing much.

He said NOTICEABLE difference from BEGINNING of month to the END of month. How hard is that to understand?

You know how it is around here, if the guy isn't all-world instantly, he's a bust. We have so many draft gurus here, I can't fathom why the Cowboys simply fire Jeff Ireland and his staff and rely on the fans for the draft.

Carpenter was barely on the field at first.

If you really watch him against the run, you notice two things.
One, he doesn't beat his man.
Two, he doesn't get beat by his man.

Carpenter holds up at the point of attack and stretches runs out which allows the pursuit to get there.

It'd be great to see him blow up guys and get tackles for losses all day, but I'll take this as a start gladly.
