I don't recall hearing his name called all night and he didn't show up in the stats line. I was expecting alot more from him this year.

Burnett was absent tonight as well - although I am not sure if he was active tonight.

Burnett was active, and i saw him on one punt coverage play, but that was all.

Carpenter was part of that shotgun set where we were confusing Manning like crazy with a bunch of pointing and moving around, but other that that i just saw him on ST.

Neither played many defensive snaps, and im not sure if Burnett played any snaps at all on defense.

you probably missed Carp because he was maybe on the field for 2 plays

Bradie was the nickle-backer

Burnett was active, I guess they decided not to risk him getting re-injured and didn't put him on the field

99% of the defense was non existent

I agree that our D looked horrible but at least 15 other players showed up to at least record a stat. Our 1st rounder from last year couldn't even rack up a single stat.

Try watching the game instead of reading the stat line.

I was all for the Carpenter pick because I thought he looked pretty good at Ohio State. But it's starting to look like he was a terrible pick. The guy is barely getting on the field, and that's not right for a top-20 overall pick.

I hated the pick, he looked like a big slumbering oaf. Trade him to green bay so Hawk can make him look good. Should of picked Oline in 2006.

I remember seeing Carp jump around on defense before the snap

I DID watch the game and then I checked the stat line to verify what I saw (didn't see) absolutely nothing from Carp. Tell me what you saw in the game? Carp creating Havoc??? I doubt it.

Carpenter is going to go down as the poster boy of BUSTS.

Draft picks that fail miserably will no longer be labeled as a bust, instead they'll be labeled a bobby.

Well, some will say at least Carp could have been a backup in case of injury, well Ellis is out and he is still on the bench. Guess we would have to have an ILB go out for him to play, but I would rather see Burnett if he is healthy take that spot.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but with all our injuries on D, and Carp still can't get on the field, it is easy to say he is a waste of airspace. First round picks are so precious, you can keep them, trade them up and down the draft, or for the following year to fill a need. Funny thing is people will say if James was hurt, we would like having Carp and we can't predict where injuries will happen, but thing is, he might not even be able to be the backup in that spot on a D that looked horrible last night.

To be fair, I saw Carp in on two special teams tackles last night (one looked like it was him getting the bulk of it so I wonder why the stat line was completely bare) and on a third down I saw him blitz up the middle which sprung Ratliff to make a play on the QB.

That said, I am disappointed that the kid doesn't play with more cojones. If he had the attitude/fire of John Saldi with the physical gifts of Bobby Carpenter he would be a beast.

Come to think of it, NONE of our linebackers looked mean and nasty last night. Someone needs to make them watch some LT/Ray Lewis/Dick Butkus clips. Hell, even Ronnie Lott and Steve Atwater layed more wood with more attitude than our 'backers!

...just sayin.

Did you see any impact that Carpenter had on the game last night Rack? I know I didn't.

There is still time for him to pan out, but he is starting to look like a bust to me.

IT took Bradie James 3 years before he showed anything. We need to at least give him that. If he is doing the same thing this time next year, then yeah, it will be time to label him a bobby.

I disagree jdub, I would expect to see more of an impact from a 1st rd pick early on than a 3rd or 4th. I could not understand why guys were calling for james to become an impact player so early in his career.

From the way Carpenter played in the playoff game last year, it is obvious, he has the talent.

I don't know what the problem is.
