Even more importantly, Carpenter is taylor made for the SOLB position that is one of our highest needs. Lawson played at what, 230-something in college? Not the size you want to take on TEs and RTs, especially on a Parcells team.

Besides, if Lawson's numbers are really that great, he won't even come close to being available when we pick.

Exactly, no doubt about it, Lawson is a talent. Although the perfect fit would be Carpenter. Big, strong, aggresive and he reminds me of the guy that BP wanted last year. (Merriman)

There are plenty of super athletes on the Dallas defense(Newman, Ware, Williams). I think this defense needs at least one guy with a super-killer attitude that fires up the rest of the team.

I am definitly supporting us to pick Lawson, however if we manage to pick Carpenter I wont be dissapointed in the least.

Our defense really needs that one last peice and I think BP is foaming at the mouth at the LB talent this year. Good OLBs are hard to come by and I think BP slam dunked on Ware.

The reason I like Manny Lawson over Carpenter is simply his athletisism. This guy can bring it in pass rushing and run stopping, and he is also known as a Special Teams God. You KNOW BP will love him if he is an awsome ST player.

Like I said, we can't go wrong!

In my opinion, Carpenter is a much better fit on the strong side. You need a big, mean, nasty guy who rips heads off with his teeth. The best analogy I can make regarding Lawson and Carpenter is a Porsche and a rodded up '67 Camaro. One is faaaast, turbo-charged and finely tuned. The other is pretty fast too, but it's big and noisy and spits fire. It's a difference in what I call "muscle," for lack of a better word. I want Carpenter. He fits the mold perfectly, the heavy for the Dallas Cowboys defense.

Don't get me wrong. I think Lawson is a heck of a talent and I think he'd make the Dallas pass rush deadly. But I see him as more of a weak-side player. I just can't envision Lawson punching offensive linemen in the mouth (although, he has long arms and is supposed to be very strong). Now, if Lawson is the choice, I can see Ware on the strong side. He has all the tools.

I wouldn't cry if we got Carpenter, because he does have really really good pass rushing speed and the size and toughness to get it done.

And we as fans can't start falling in love with one player just as the FO of Dallas can't either. We need to have several choices ready to go incase one fails. So I'm on board with either one of them.:D

Well after watching the Senior Bowl practices, I'm falling more and more in love with MAngold too.

I'd like to see him go up against Watson.

They showed that match up several times and he handled Watson pretty easily. It was one on one, but when you take into account that it won't be like that during the game Mangold dominated Watson.

During the team drills, there was at least one time Mangold got shoved back into the backfield by Watson. If Parcells really wants to get bigger at center, Mangold (at only 297 pounds) isn't the answer.

I agree, Mangold was holding his own, but it's not like he was stopping guys from moving him into the backfield

now imagine him going up against bigger, stronger NFL veterans...

dont' get me wrong, he's having a heck of a Senior Bowl, and is a great C prospect, but he certainly isn't going to be an upgrade over Al Johnson his rookie year

2nd round pick = Carpenter.

He won't be available for our second round pick. He may not be available for our first.

1. Most of the people referring to Lawson as this great playmaker have probably never seen him play. They're just reading stuff and have jumped on the bandwagon. That said, I wouldn't be upset if we got Lawson (based on what I've read).

2. Bobby Carpenter IS a playmaker as well.

I'd prefer Carpenter cuz a) He's a safer pick. Not as much of a Boom or Bust type. He may not end up being a superstar, but it's highly unlikely that he'll bust too. b) He's the most NFL ready LB in the draft (for a 3-4) IMO. He'd be an excellent SOLB and can rush the passer as well. He can even play DE in our nickel/dime defenses. The guy just makes plays.

Good post. I liked the part in bold. Got a chuckle over that.

I agree on Carpenter. He has pedigree. Something I always place value on.

Mangold did get shoved in the backfield, but on that play Watson would have been called for illegal hands to the face. Watson had to nearly rip Mangolds helmet off and Mangold even then stallmated Watson before throwing his helmet off.

The reason people are jumping on the Manny Lawson bandwagon is because he is almost the spitting image stat wise of DeMarcus Ware a year ago.

ESPN is starting to jump on his bandwagon too. Mel Kiper Jr had a small spotlight on him at practice yesterday saying that he has the intangibles that you need in a Pro and reminded him of DeMarcus Ware.

BTW Manny Lawson intercepted a pass in practice on Wednsdays off a screen pass. That turned some heads.
