If you can only sign one, who would you rather have?

1. Carr
2. Carr
3. Carr
4. Finnegan
5. Williams

If we don't improve our pass rush it won't matter who we've got in the secondary.

Carr would be a good, needed addition. Williams would be a great, needed addition.

If we don't improve our OL none of that matters but I we were talking defense. lol

Depends if they see Williams as a OLB or DE.....as an OLB, I'd go Carr but if they have him as a DE, I'd take Williams.

It wouldn't have mattered if Dallas had Mike Haynes and Dieon Sanders at CB last year, the lack of any interior push rendered the DBs useless.

No matter how great the edge rusher is (Ware), teams can gameplan around them....adding Williams inside, moving Ratliff to DE and grabbing a widebody (or the possible development of Brent) at the nose makes this defense scary for OCs.

It's a passing league and teams that pressure the QB win.

Really?

We were 7th in both sacks and rushing yards allowed, yet ranked only 18th in total defense..........looks like clear evidence that it does matter who's in the secondary.

This. Anybody have the sack pressure numbers for the last four games.

Lets get Carr and Nicks in the 1st round of FA. Then go bargin shopping for possibilities at OC, ILB and S.

Then follow it up with a strong draft.

Why? Is that all that matters? Tell it to the 2010 Cowboys who I believe went 4-8 in their first 12.

Lets review the entire body of work, the whole team. Identify the need areas and address them.

Deion Sanders said it doesnt matter who you put in the secondary, nobody can cover more than 2.5 seconds. Also this team has been getting carved up for years middle of the field. Athleticism at ILB or nickle LB would help alot. I dont argue Carr, but an average of 10 mill a year is high IMO. He is better than they have but not elite.

And exactly who is that elite pass rusher whom we'd have to forgo signing if we ink Carr?

Williams? OK, but I'm not sure it's a fit. I'm all for spending big dollars for the best FAs, but I believe he's not a good candidate to play SOLB for us. I do think he'd be an excellent 3-4 DE for us.

Either way, the team finished 7th in sacks. Our pass rush tailed off the 2nd half because Ware and Ratliff were nursing injuries and often played at less than 100%.

This team needs to committ to reducing the % of the defensive snaps Ware and Ratliff plays. That will help keep them fresh and healthy for the stretch run.

Carr is a good player and fills a huge need/hole. Signing him, even to a deal perhaps 20-30% more than he's worth is a good play.

We lacked consistent pressure. The kind the Giants and Eagles put on Romo. When you have that, you don't force your secondary to cover for long. When you don't have that, any quality receiver is going to work open against any quality corner.

Defense starts with your ability to stop the run and rush the passer. We did one of those things really well.

Had you said Williams or Nicks, it would have been a tougher decision. The trenches are #1 on the fix list. Nf we want to keep Romo in the upright position we need to fix the OL (Nicks), if we want more QB pressure it would be of course Williams. We need both but I don't think both get fixd in FA but if we can get one in FA then draft the other will help. With good pressure on the QB automatically helps your defensive backfield.

Ratliff already a declining player. Ware it wont be long, and he has been nicked up the last couple years.

Williams. It's is much more difficult to come by an elite DE than a CB on the same level as Carr.

I won't be exactly crying if we get Nicks and Carr at the expense of Williams.

I will be if we just go bargain shopping like we did last year.

Last years bargain shopping was due to cap issues that were tighter than what they are this year
