They're backed into a corner........doesn't surprise me at all. Said in many threads, ET would rather have financial protection than playing under one year. The Cowboys offered that but Seahawks blew it. I can see Stephen now offering conditional 3rd or 4th rounder. As for an ET new deal, remember we'll have a boatload of cap space next year, so I don't see that as an issue. Besides, I doubt the Cowboys would have offered to trade if they didn't think could a get the contract done.

Earl Thomas - DB - Seahawks
Speaking Tuesday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said "we'll see" when asked if holdout FS Earl Thomas would be with the team come Week 1.

Even at the risk of incurring massive fines, 29-year-old Thomas has said he will hold out of all team activities until his contract situation is rectified. The Seahawks publicly shopped Thomas this offseason but never found the trade price they were looking for. Thomas isn't interested in risking his health as he tries to get his football future squared away. This one could get messy.

Think about it.....even when/if he finally reports, they have a pissed off veteran leader in the locker room afraid of risking financial security. Just me, but the only way I see this ending, extension or trade.

False hope.
He will get an extension.

Jerry offers a 3rd round pick and Seattle hangs up the phone.

When a teams wants to trade a player, the following can happen:

They give team X permission to talk to the player/agent.

Team X offers the player a big multi-year contract.

Now team X offers the original team a box of paper clips for the player in a trade.

The player with 1 year remaining on his contract and approaching 30 years old knows that team X has offered him the contract that he wants but is stuck with the original team because the teams can't agree on the trade.

The player can either shut up and play, then take his chances in free agency at age 30 or he can try to force the original team to pay him, cut him or accept whatever team X is offering.

Team X waits to see what happens.

If the original teams begs, team X might up the offer to a 7th round pick in 2025.

There’s a very easy way to,clean up the mess. Just pick up the phone and be reasonable.
THATS RIGHT. Dallas has ALL the leverage...as well as ET. The Hawks got greedy..now they got a mess festering. Seattle needs to place that call..do a couple mia copa's and make a deal. Dallas doesn't have to do anything at all but wait.

Right now the Sea Hags aint getting more than a 4th round pick..and MAYBE a halfway decent player. All they had to do was not get greedy at the draft and make a deal with us. Its their own fault its gotten to this point.

Look, I know this topic has been beat Into the ground.. but the way the Seahawks have handle this and the way Earl has made it clear he’d like to be in Dallas has only amplified the rumors.

That said.. IF Thomas was traded to Dallas, the media will instantly be drooling over our defense. I promise you that. And I must admit, I personally believe Thomas would put the icing on this Defense.

With Richard and Thomas coming over to school our talented secondary, add the equally talented trio of LBs, and the revamped DL including the depth at all positions on defense.. wow.

Our defense ranked 8th last year. I personally believe we are already better personnel wise and could be a top five Defense without Earl. But with him.. there would be no doubt in my mind.

Stay with me here.. Earl isn’t Deon, but this reminds me when Sanders came to Dallas in 1995. Our defense was already good, but Sanders made our secondary scary.

I’m been trying not to get my hopes up, but the longer this situation lingers, I cant help but day dream ab what could be. Sorry. Please just wake me up.

Sean Lee and Earl Thomas would be All Pro coaches on the field.

Adding not only ET’s talent but his leadership and football knowledge and IQ to this talented young defense would catapult this to a Jaguarsesque level D.

Haha people suggesting offering a 4th or 5th rounder. That’s silly. Seattle can do better just with a comp pick.

If it happens, it’s gonna be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I imagine Dallas does the deal right now if it’s for a 3rd. I imagine Seattle does it right now if it’s for a 2nd.

The question is, who is gonna budge first? Or who can sweeten the pot just a little more for a middle ground?

Meh, just wait until 2019 and get him for free.
