I don't know how they do it, but the Pats look like they have another qb who can play ball. But Cassel is a free agent after this year, which means the Patriots have a decision to make.

Do they sign Cassel to a long term deal and shop Brady?

Do they franchise Cassel and wait till someone decides to give up a 1st and a 3rd for him?

What would Brady be worth in terms of picks? Three #1's? Two #1's? He's 32 years old, coming of a major injury, but he's still Tom Fricken Brady.

What would the Vikes give up to get him? The patriots are no strangers to letting very good veterans leave. It will be interesting to see what they do. Personally, I'd franchise Cassel and see if I could trade him for picks.

Thoughts?

Let's see...the man whose proven for far more than 1 season that he is one of the elite QBs in the league or the guy whose proven to be a quality QB for only 1 season...hmmmm....I wonder which one I should choose.

This isn't even a legit question, IMO.

Brady will be 32, and is coming off an MCL and ACL tear. Mcnabb and Palmer have never been the same since they blew out their knees.

Brady is Brady true, but if you really think you have the opportunity to have a great young qb vs a 32 year old player. It warrants some consideration.

Look at Cassels numbers. 21TD's 11 INT's and a rating of 90.

Now consider that this guy hasn't started a football game since High School.

Think about that. Fricken High School?????? I'm guessing that with a year under his his belt, the kid is only going to get better, and better.

Heck, 4 of his last 6 starts, he's had a qb rating over 100, and a 14-4 td to Int ratio. Its obvious he's only getting better with time. What could he do with a season or two under his belt?

You could get two #1's for Brady right now I believe. That would help Belicheck rebuild his defense, and have his qb for the next 10 years.

Its a tough decision to get rid of someone like Brady, but this is a business, and nobody makes better business decisions, no matter how hard, than the Patriots.

With practically the same team Brady was 17-1

With Cassell struggling to make the playoffs

Palmer has suffered from other injuries and a piss poor line play. Palmer was actually quite good last year after his injury despite things.

It effected McNabb more cause he scrambles about and used his legs more to make plays. Brady doesn't scramble. He stays in the pocket. I don't see it effecting him nearly as much.

Cassel is good, very good even, and will make a fine QB for someone. But you don't take Cassel over Brady after just one season. At least in my mind you don't.

The Pats will franchise Cassel and take picks for him. Maybe Cassel will end up being worth the price, but there's no way the Pats choose him over Brady.

look at Brady's numbers with the same team.........

52 tds...........8 ints.........4 bowls........3 rings..........2 sb mvp..

now lets look at Derick Andersons numbers last year....

29 tds.......3787 yrds.............

DA had better numbers than Cassell with less talent...would you take him over Brady also..........................

i cant believe i took the time to respond to such silliness..........Brady?...Brady?,..............how could any team trade Brady..............really....you do know he may be best all time right? and still in his prime

Babe Ruth? How could any team trade Babe Ruth?

Wayne Gretzky? How could any team trade Wayne Gretzky?

Joe Montana? How could any team trade Joe Montana?

Kareem Abdul Jabbar? How could any team trade Kareem?

You're right. These trades don't just happen in sports. Especially to big name players.

And I don't consider a 32 year old qb coming off an ACL and an MCL tear exactly "in his prime".

wow, i cant believe yall are using the numbers card.

how about this. how about u do something consistently for 6 years....then basically stop for 6-8 years....then try doing it again. If you have no rust at all, then you are completely full of crap.

The speed of the game in HS is nothing like the speed of the game in college. The speed of the game in college is nothing like the speed of the game in the NFL. Cassell never played in college. Cassell sat out all those years in the NFL.

Did he practice, yes. But, he never got game time reps.....and so it is hard to adjust to that speed and such when you have no idea of it. So he struggled the first few weeks. He was basically a rookie. At least Romo played in college. At least Steve Young played in the USFL and for Tampa before sitting for a few years behind Montana. At least Rodgers played in college. Look how crappy GB has been with Rodgers. Favre had them 13-3, and with basically the same team, they aren't even in the playoffs this year. Now, injuries have destroyed them, especially defensively, but still.....if you are going to bash Cassell, then you have to bash Rodgers. I think Cassell has done an excellent job for the Pats.

Also, let's remember, this Pats D is not the same D it used to be. It is old and in need of upgrade...They lost a lot of their secondary in the offseason. Those guys were key parts to their 19-1 season as well. To say the suckage is all on Cassell is foolish.

I say you keep Cassell and Brady.

It'd be funny if Cassel took over, since it would be basically what Brady did to Bledsoe. Look how that turned out.

and you dont think 3 out of 4 of those teams didnt regret it? how did all those trades work our for the teams that traded them.....(except Montana)?

and Montana is not a very good example...he already had played for the Niners 13-14 years .....(not in his prime).....Brady is not a mobile qb the ACL and MCL tear will not effect his game ...Brady is all about arm and brain......31 (is how old he is) is not the end of the line on QBs....Elway 38.....Favre 39....both still very good at that age....Brady should give them 5 more years and they could win another, maybe 2 more SBs by then...what would the Broncos have done if you were their GM...you would have traded Elway 7 years before he won a SB......

Brady has the Gisele curse over him and now he's going to marry her so I'd go Cassell.

I seriously question the IQ of anyone who thinks the Pats are gonna trade Brady. The one thing you guys overlook, GM's arent that stupid. They know if you're gonna trade a guy who just threw for 50 TDs, something's wrong and gonna be wrong for a long time if not forever, and they're not gonna start making 1st round picks rain.

I don't think anyone is sitting here saying Cassel is better than Brady. Thats really not the point of this thread, but that seems to be what its gravitated towards. You need to look a little deeper.....

1. The 50 td season, will be 2 seasons ago when Brady comes back next year.

2. He has a torn ACL and MCL and any other qb who has come back from that type of knee injury usually takes 1.5 to 2 years to fully recover from. Brady will be 32 next year. If it takes him 2 years for him to be the brady of old, he will be 33 years old.

3. Cassel has put up outstanding numbers for a guy who hasn't played since high school. How high is this kids ceiling? I think he'll get much better as he gets more experience.

4. Brady is a guaranteed two 1st round draft picks. And as shrewd as the pats can be on draft day, they could turn that into multimple first day picks for years.

I don't think the Pats will up and trade Brady, but if you think that this won't at least be discussed behind closed doors in Boston, you're fooling yourself.
