Drew Bledsoe

Who never won a Superbowl there.

Anyone trying to compare letting Drew go to letting Brady go is insane. The two situations couldn't be more different.

They let Drew go for the guy who led them to a Superbowl victory. Unless Cassel leads them to a Superbowl win, and they truly believe that's enough to get rid of a QB whose led them there 4 times, winning 3 of them, then there is zero shot of Cassel being kept over Brady.

I don't think anyone is sitting here saying Cassel is better than Brady. Thats really not the point of this thread, but that seems to be what its gravitated towards. You need to look a little deeper.....

1. The 50 td season, will be 2 seasons ago when Brady comes back next year.

2. He has a torn ACL and MCL and any other qb who has come back from that type of knee injury usually takes 1.5 to 2 years to fully recover from. Brady will be 32 next year. If it takes him 2 years for him to be the brady of old, he will be 33 years old.

3. Cassel has put up outstanding numbers for a guy who hasn't played since high school. How high is this kids ceiling? I think he'll get much better as he gets more experience.

4. Brady is a guaranteed two 1st round draft picks. And as shrewd as the pats can be on draft day, they could turn that into multimple first day picks for years.

I don't think the Pats will up and trade Brady, but if you think that this won't at least be discussed behind closed doors in Boston, you're fooling yourself.
Sorry G, you're kidding yourself for the simple fact that my original post negates #4 cause most GMs arent that stupid. At worst, this is the second best QB of our generation and great QBs come too far and between for you to talk about what you THINK will happen with Cassel who's had a good(NOT "outstanding") season as opposed what we already KNOW that's happened with Brady a year ago.

And as to your #2 point, Brady isnt McNabb who needs his legs to move around to get the best of him as a QB. Brady has never been a good scrambler regardless and I doubt his ACL will affect his movement in a small confined space which is where his mobility is at it's best.

New England isnt dumb enough to throw away what's at worst, probably 3-4 years left of an era with a healthy Brady just so they dont have to deal with half of a season of a still recovering Brady next season.

To play devils advocate....

Getting rid of Brady is neither stupid or smart. Its a business decision. If Cassel is "the next brady", it would be genius considering what the pats could get for brady on the open market. If they do it and Cassel stinks, it would be a bad decision, but one that with 2 extra 1st round picks would help the pill easier to swallow. But for you or I to be able to sit here and judge the stupidity of such a move, if they should make it, is....well...stupid. Only time would tell if it was a good or bad move.

Two....Brady isn't a scrambler, but he is a mobile qb. Mobile in the sense that he makes subtle moves here and there and he most certainly steps up in the pocket to throw. Same as Carson Palmer. The problem here is stepping into his throws with a bum knee. Its a psychological thing more than Physical.

Trading Brady definitely would be stupid. You can judge whether or not a decision is good or bad even before you see the results. For example, say I go out to a bar and get hammered tonight. As I'm leaving the bar, I can decide to drive myself home or to call a cab. If I decide to drive, then I've made a bad decision, even if I happen to make it home safely.

The quality of a decision is not defined by the outcome, but rather the probability of a favorable outcome and the potential consequences of a negative result. The odds that Brady will return to play like Tom Brady circa 2007 are greater than the odds that Cassell will ever play at that level.

Jay Feeley/Miami Dolphins part two......

I hope Washington or Philly trades for Cassell.

Exactly. He's going to seriously disappoint the team that ends up breaking the bank to get him.

The lone exception was Trent Green, though he was high reward low risk when St.Louis traded for him via his restricted free agency contract and ironically he got hurt and gave way to Kurt Warner.

Still out of all the back ups with starter potential in the past decade he was the best and worth a late 1st rounder.

People should realize that Brady will never come close to duplicating the success he had in 2007. Brady never threw more than 28 TD's in a season prior to 2007, and threw for over 4000 yards just once. The Patriots just had a freakishly good season last year. Cassel has performed at about the same level as Tom Brady pre-2007.

And they still went 18-1 :lmao2:

And he wasnt throwing to Moss and Welker those seasons, which are major mismatches for defenses and almost uncoverable one on one.
