Casserly guesses Cowboys trade up for Donald

So any time Donald is shut down its because the whole OL is blocking him? Sorry to tell you but its going to be more of the same in the NFL. If he couldnt handle it in College what makes you think he's going to in the NFL?

I think he's good, i just dont think he's as good as he's going to be drafted. I see Sharrif Floyd part 2 type stats.

This. People seriously consider him the second coming of Randy White.

Why do we draft him with Melton here? Remember Melton is coing ff a knee injury and didn't look great last year before his injury. There are reasons we got him on what appears to be a low risk deal.

The Floyd comparison is awful. Donald's measureables are better in every category. Floyd is 2-3 inches taller and similar weight, has a bad tendency of coming up straight out of his stance. Donald is considered one of the most explosive guys off the ball in years. You just have some bias against him...heck, I like Donald but won't be shattered if we don't take him.

Because i think its a bad idea to trade up for him? When did Donald become Jesus?

People talk about Donald being perfect for the scheme. What do people think Melton is? He struggled in the scheme that the bears runs now. Melton was made for marinelli's defense

I think there is more chance of Barr being gone at 16 then there is of Donald.

Barr is a real wild card. If some teams drafting early feel he may be the next D-Ware then he may go top ten.

I just want one of my favorites (Barr, Donald or Martin) to fall to the Cowboys at 16. Heck, I'll even take Watkins, Lewan, Clowney or Mack if they fall!

I agree. I don't like the idea of falling in love with any one player. We do it every year. Two years ago it was David DeCastro. Last year it was Chance Warmack and Jonathon Cooper. I don't like the idea of building up this image of a player in your mind because 1) they can turn out to not live up to your fantasies, and 2) they can go to another team, and that would be awkward having a lifelong man-crush on someone playing for a team like the Giants.

But I do like Donald for a few reasons: 1) he fits our scheme, 2) he's the best DT (him and Easley) in the draft, and 3) he doesn't have the red flags that Easley has. I think Easley is just as good as Donald, but if I had my choice between the two, I'd like Donald just because he doesn't have the injury concerns.

Overall, I just hope we get some good players. We definitely need a WDE. Barr has the highest ceiling of any WDEs in the draft, but he also has a few concerns. He's more of a project and he's more suited for 3-4 OLB. There are some good WDEs in the draft (Lawrence, Ford, Attachou) but they aren't really top-tier talents. I just hope we get some good players for the DL. I'm not trying to fall in love with any one guy. I'd be happy with any combo of Donald/Lawrence, Donald/Attachou, Barr/Easley, Ford/Easley, etc.

BUt I bet you wouldn't have a problem trading up for Barr, who is much more of a question mark than Donald is.

I would hate that too. I dont think they should trade up for anybody. They have too many needs and need picks to gather quality depth. Not guys off the street.

Seems we are of the same mind....stay put or trade down. Hope that Barr or Donald is there at 16.

However, if you really feel that Donald is the guy, I think he is worth a 3rd rounder...honestly I am the same with Barr.

Here's the deal for me. Garrett is at a make or break point. I want him to have the guys he thinks are going to make the difference. If that means trading up for a guy they think gives them the best chance to contribute from day one and be a difference maker, I have zero problem with it.

this is Rick Gosselin's response to my question about 'who dso you think the Cowboy's will select in the first round.

"I believe they want DT Aaron Donald."

Of course, want and get aren't the same

I wouldn't trade up for Donald, unless -- he falls to 13, where you might get a reasonable deal from the Rams, right in front of Chicago. Especially if you can pitch it with a pick from next year's draft. St. Louis has been playing the draft game real well, given the head start of all those Commanders picks. Just another chance for them to play forward a year.
