I don't like to give Jerry any credit for having any forethought but keeping the lameduck coach and making him eat this year so the next guy gets a better cap, a higher pick and a lower bar to get over, coming off a 6 win season does make sense

Well yes, but Jerry was dealing out the punishment on Mike and the $90M+ passing game. I think that's what Cavanaugg's getting at (and reported here), Jerry is vengeful....when he didn't get Dak to sign a reasonable contract (I'm dying on the hill that Jerry wanted him for life)...he started thinking I'll save by not spending anything.
I reckon Jerry knew some time ago that Dak wasn't giving him a long contract....Dak knew Jerry wouldn't give up his Franchise QB.

Maybe Jerry did intend to tank, but I do not believe so. They were 12-5, made the playoffs and appeared so close to contending for a Super Bowl. They had 2 obvious issues that needed to be address, which should have been easy to fix, especially considering the quality of the DTs in free agency. Why would you tank the season when you know exactly what you have to do to get over the hump?

I am sticking to my contention that Jerry is old and losing his faculties. His rambling nonsensical answers to simple question are evidence he is struggling to find word and close the loop on his thoughts. There is no pattern to what Jerry is doing, I am not sure even he knows what he is doing.

Jerry wasn’t thinking this was a tank season. Just stop. Those morons think they are smarter than everyone else. They think they draft better, sign better players, etc… That clown thought Zeke was going to rush for 1,000 yards I assure you of that. This is not a particularly great draft, they signed a 31 year old QB to a huge contract and their cap situation is not good. They did not believe they would be 3-5. It’s the chickens coming home to roost. Bad drafts. Bad cap spend. Bad culture. Cheap. 1 year contracts. It’s all blowing up in his gremlin face.

Yup. The idea that this was done on purpose is giving them too much credit.

The system is set up so sustained success is extremely difficult, and they needed to take more of a shot the last few seasons.

This team would be just now hitting a down period even with an actual capable front office. They think too much of themselves to recognize these things.

I recall. Yup. I think Dak being hurt might be a positive for him and the team . I don't wish it on anyone, but sometimes a fresh view from afar is helpful. Let's us see more about Lance too. I feel Trey will get his chance now.

I think there are times he's trying to make sure what he says doesn't have a negative effect on the team and/or players

Zeke changing to jersey No:15 (merchandise), allowing FA's to leave (resetting CAP), Dak's contract timing (publicity, optic of trying, Dak probably wouldnt sign in 2025 after his health was put at risk with this O-Line). This was just a lot of bets that went against the team. Also, media types will try to sell people on this thinking to maintain interest in their content.

Try selling your content if you come out every show to say, the team sucks at basically every level currently with no hope of a quick turnaround. Get comfortable for at least 3-5 years of dog **** football performance. We’ve opened the phones to calls-share with us your thoughts.

Tanking would have made sense if you planned on moving up to get a new rookie Qb......once they overpaid Dakota there is no reason to tank.

I don’t believe they thought they’d be as good or better than last year. But I do think they felt they would still be relevant and even sneak into the playoffs, which is really all that truly matters to Jerry when it comes to the teams performance.

I think you've misinterpreted the clip and the OP.....nothing there is meant as at lauding Jerry, it's just a (conceivable) way on how Jerry see's this season.
The only part of the OP I'd change is that he probably wasn't looking at tanking, however, probably thought he could sneak into the play-offs with what we had, but he wasn't giving MM added resources....
