The NBA thread was 90% Spurs so I decided to start a Cavs one. So far they're 1-3 and their only win came in overtime. Not looking very good. They have no one outside the Big 3 and their bench is awful. The old vets they added, Shawn Marion and Mike Miller, have done nothing. It's still early but they look really bad so far. Discuss.

they should stink it up for another month or so. Then, I see them building some chemistry and gaining some momentum. I don't see them as a top 3 seed, but they should make the playoffs.

Yeah, it's still early and there don't seem to be any powerhouses in the East. I still had Miami as my favorites for the East immediately after LeBron left. I still feel that way. They're a good team and Spo is a great coach. And I think Chicago's being overrated all offseason. My two favorite teams in the East are Miami and Washington. Miami has great chemistry and John Wall is emerging superstar status. I think Cleveland could creep up into the top 3 later in the season.

So far with the emergence of Jimmy Butler, the Bulls have been very good.... Cleveland has defensive, and communication issues from what I can see. Mike Miller and Shawn Marion has been after thoughts by the coaching staff, so It's not their fault...... Things will improve..... If they decide to make a move at any point they still have 2 first rounders (?).... and Waiters, who probably doesn't fit what they want to do, but is too talented to give up on.....

Kings look legit this year with Demarcus Cousins playing lights out - best center in the game.

As for the Cavs, the chemistry should improve soon and they'll be contending.

So far the Warriors are the most impressive team. And they got a legit center.

Cavs have to figure out a new coach, his system, a workable rotation, how to execute at end of games and all that.

They've got the pieces and they play in the weak East.
Long-term smart money is on them to win the East.

Chicago will compete but they can't Rose through a week much less a season.

The Cavs have played all of 1 home game thus far. It'll turn for them and then they'll roll.

.500 makes you a 5 seed in the East which is still the JV division.

Lucky LeBron won his titles in Miami because he won't win in Cleveland.

Certainly possible but I wouldn't bet against him.
Teams seldom gel in year 1 much less week 1.
I think you'd have to favor the West champ this year but there are 6 to 8 teams(possibly more) that could emerge and win the title this wide open season and CLE is in that group.

Making this type blanket statement however is pretty much announcing you aren't to be taken seriously in talking basketball.

I love LeBron.
He is no Jordan, not Kobe...

What I mean, he seems fragile at times. Those bookend loses in nba titles. He grew a lot from first loss, manhandled the two titles in between, but seem to revert back on last one.

The Heat were a business team built to win. The Spurs have a gel that Miami never had.

I don't think LeBron is Jordan either but a lot of titles have been won without Jordan.
And there is no Jordan on another team either.

The Spurs are one of a handful of teams in the title hunt but they are not anywhere near prohibitive favorites.
Spurs fan have to worry more about getting to the Finals than winning it by beating the Cavs IMO.
BUT, the fact the Spurs fans can't shut up about CLE tells you who they really fear.

LeBron is prone to poor games, especially with his shooting at times.
But he isn't fragile in any way. there is no sin in getting to the Finals but losing.
He has reshaped the league now twice and has titles and MVPs to his credit.

The Spurs have far more to worry about with fragility trying to get Parker, Duncan and Ginobli through the season and to the playoffs healthy.
The West is a grind and it will be harder to take a high seed while resting those guys than it will for a brand new CLE team to figure things out as it goes.
50 wins in the West is a 6/7 seed.
In the East that's a 2/3.

LeBron is in same talks as Jordan and Bryant. That's just SOP.

Sorry, but Spurs fans have nothing to worry about. The lock up an nba title win every couple of years. All good there. Lol

The Spurs only talk about Cleveland because they are more like, bring it on! LeBron has no valid weapons! They are not a threat. don't know that they will be. Again, I like James but it took creating a dream team to get him the titles.

We'll see.

This thread is starting to turn into the NBA thread (a.k.a. the Spurs thread).

The Spurs are part of the NBA. Nobody has any problem talking about anything with the NBA. The thread there was more about the Kawhi contract than the Spurs this season. People will talk about news as it happens, the Kawhi contract was news at the time.

As for the Cavs, they'll be fine. The Heat had a really rough start their first year, also. D Wade even gave the depressed press conference about "this is what y'all wanted, we're losing games." It's a brand new system with brand new players - come season's end, they'll be a/the top seed in the East. News of Lebron's decline (Bill Simmons) has been greatly overexaggerated.

I think any team in their right mind should fear Cleveland. They have the one guy in the NBA who could conceivably win a series almost single-handedly. If they can figure out their defense, and Irving takes that next step into an elite PG, the East needs to look out. However, I think that there are at least four teams in the West (if healthy) who could beat the Cavs in a 7 game series. OKC, Dallas, SA for sure -- and maybe the Clippers.

I was born and raised in Cleveland and still live there. I'm not too worried about the Cavs right now. I didn't think they'd start the season at 1-3 but I figured they'd struggle a little bit in the beginning of the season due to learning a new system. The biggest issue is Kyrie Irving. After their 20 point loss against Portland LeBron and Kyrie exchanged words about how the offense should be run etc. What does Kyrie do the next night.....have 34 points but ZERO assists. He's the PG and should be the one distributing the ball and getting everyone involved more!

They have Varejao, Thompson, and Waiters who are all very good players. Also, I think Shawn Marion is still a solid player. They will be fine and very dangerous soon.

The Cavs are fine. People forget that when Lebron went to Miami, that team struggled up until November ended.
