It's been known to happen.. there and elsewhere.

Like when we first sign Deion. First play from scrimmage against the Niners. He stays at Corner, Rice lines up in the slot and buzzs right past Woody for like an 80 yarder.

Perhaps guys like Steve Smith and Jerry Rice deserve special attention ........

But what the heck do I know - it's just an idea.

You'd think so, Staut.. even 2 against 1 sounds good. Cept these days when your safeties wave their arms around on deep balls bout like the ol lady does if I hit her fly balls considering shes never caught a baseball in her life.

On the TD to Buress the other day I would have been tickled to death if Watkins had waved his arms around a little - he didn't even bother to do that much.

He did have a nice view of the play though.

I was watching Ware's 3 sack, 3 ff game last year on Youtube, the highlights at least, where it showed his 1st sack and fumble which was picked up by SMith, and TNew body-slammed him out of bounds, the play he got ejected on

so yeah, to say Stevie Smith is gunning for Newman this Sunday would be an understatement, but I think TNew wins this battle again

Honeslty Newman really didnt shut Smith out at all. It was Demarcus Ware unleashing hell on Delohme all day.

Now dont get me wrong, Newman v.s Smith would be the smart way to see it. And honeslty I think Newman can cover him better than anyone in the league. However we dont play Defense like that.

newman has his side and Henry has his... Not to mention The Cb's rarely ever go for the Deep balls. Steve Smith will torch Watkins and Willaims if given the chance.

Dont sleep well expecting Newman to cover Smith all day... It wont happen.

it was both Newman, and our coverage scheme that day, Smith was showing visible fustration when Delhomme was throwing in the other direction, because we had alot of passing lanes to Smith closed down, of course as a receiver he thought he was open, and Newman was blanketed on him for the majority

Ware played a part, but our secondary, outside of 2 plays, was very good that day cutting off Smith from Delhomme, watch us to employ the same strategy, and IMO, w/ similar success, although Key presents a problem, he doesn't do a very good job of seperating

Exactly, this is the way I saw the match up....Smith is the hottest WR in the NFL IMO, therefore he MUST be accounted for throughout the game. Otherwise, he will post some really quick scores which will put undue pressure on ROMO to come from behind.

I really hope our offense can take a early lead and protect the football which should give us the best chance for a win in Carolina Zoners! ;)

Zoners:

I am worried that Smith will take it to TNew bad this game to even the score. Smith is still fuming about how TNew hounded him the last time they played when Smith got ejected.

Do you guys believe we can control Smith again?
Yes. Newman is the best in the game.

Just keep him out of the endzone.

If we can do that then it was an accomplishment.

lmao..imagine them throwing a jump ball to Smith in the endzone from the 5 yard line...with Henry or Newman on him..lol

i predict caolina will have alot of 3 n outs..since smith will be covered tightly...and keyshawn..will be handeld by Anthony Henry

Not always. We matched up Newman with the opponent's No. 1 receiver several times last season -- including games against Steve Smith, Santana Moss (the second game) and Torry Holt, and none of them did anything against Newman.

Huh? If their man goes deep, they cover him on a deep throw.
