Owner group for today: Jones, Hunt, Mara, Rooney. No Kraft today. Players group: Mawae, Foxworth, Morey, Saturday, Kendall.

Interesting fact to pass along here ... Three of the five players we spotted going in are retirees.

Domonique Foxworth, Kevin Mawae, Ira Fishman round out the NFLPA contingent.

Pete Kendall, Jeff Saturday, Sean Morey, Tom DePaso, DeMaurice Smith, Mark Levin going in ...

Pete Kendall joining the players group today.

AlbertBreerAlbert Breer
Giants owner John Mara and NFLPA outside counsel Jeffrey Kessler just entered the building. Not together, of course.

NFL commish Roger Goodell, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt first to arrive here. Judge Arthur Boylan right behind them.

Keep in mind folks: the NFL Players' Reserve was some BS group. The 8th circuit just slapped them around a bit and told them to go home.

Second motion by NFL Players' reserve to intervene in lockout denied by 8th circuit. #Refresh

welp, it's pretty much do or die today.. hopefully something concrete will come out today's meeting(s)

I won't take anything from any news unless it says....settled, agreement reached....camp begins....

Who goes into what meeting, and what courthouse, I can care less about. Just get it done.

Again, 8th Circuit ruling for Owners totally expected following earlier rulings. Timing is curious in the middle of advanced negotiations.

8th circuit court rules lockout is legal http://t.co/ZrFBgw0 #NFL #NFLPA

8th Circuit court basically says Judge Nelson needs to have specific evidentiary hearing on legality of lockout pertaining to free agents

AdamSchefterAdam Schefter
8th Circuit ruled NFL cannot lockout players not under contract -- i.e. rookies, free agents -- because there is no employment relationship.

The lockout is legal, thanks to a VERY surprise ruling from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. (In terms of timing)

8th Circuit felt Judge Nelson should have had evidentiary hearing on irreparable harm issue to free agents; case remanded back to her.

AlbertBreerAlbert Breer
So leverage is still balanced to a degree. Like it was after the hearing -- Lockout on, but antitrust case allowed to go forward.

On Players' side, Court expressed no opinion on length of labor exemption and protection from the underlying antitrust case of Brady v. NFL.

AlbertBreerAlbert Breer
What that means is players have a piece of leverage here too ... Antitrust litigation can go forward. Damages liability there for owners.

AlbertBreerAlbert Breer
(8th cont): "... from the antitrust laws continues after the union’s disclaimer."

AlbertBreerAlbert Breer
Another important point from 8th: "In particular, we express no view on whether the League’s nonstatutory labor exemption ..."

Money quote: "The labor dispute did not suddenly disappear because Players elected to pursue antitrust litigation rather than bargaining.”

In English, that means the NFL remains subject to a $12 billion judgment if the season is missed due to the lockout.

Key point -- the 8th Circuit punted on the question of whether the nonstatutory labor exemption applies after NFLPA decertification.

AdamSchefterAdam Schefter
As @mortreport noted, 8th Circuit delivered on promise of neither side being completely happy because of free agent/rookie instructions.

mortreportChris Mortensen
Again, 8th Cicruit ruling not a total victory for owners. The antitrust case/damages lingers in this ruling, so leaves motive for settlement

Interesting turnabout on initial reax from owner' side re: 8th Circuit ruling. No real victory. Antitrust leverage still hovering 4 players

They have 7 days, including the weekend. They had better get moving.
