They took much of the bias out of it and calculated the rankings based on merit. What a novel idea :)

The criteria (points)

  • Super Bowl wins (10 each)
  • Super Bowl losses (5 each)
  • Hall of Famers (3 each)
  • Division titles (1 each)
  • All-time winning percentage (points are the reserve of their Super Bowl-era ranking)
  1. DALLAS
  2. Pittsburgh
  3. San Francisco
  4. Oakland
  5. Green Bay
  6. New England
  7. Washington
  8. Miami
  9. Minnesota
  10. Denver

etc

DALLAS
  • Super Bowl wins: 50
  • Super Bowl losses: 15
  • Hall of Famers: 45
  • Division titles: 22
  • All-time winning percentage: 32

The Cowboys have the highest regular-season winning percentage in modern NFL history, they are tied for second all time with five Super Bowl wins and are tied for first with eight appearances. They also have 15 Hall of Famers in the Super Bowl era and have won a ridiculous 22 division titles.

longevity has a lot to do with this too. Miami, Oakland and Washington have been dumpster fires for over a decade.

Man...

Just goes to show you how truly great the team was under Landry and Johnson when even after 20 years of average the team is still #1 based on those eras. Must have been great watching those teams.

This fan base has been truly spoiled, lol.

A measure of our popularity? When football commentators want to increase ratings, generate clicks, produce fan feedback (for or against a team), they don't talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's for sure.

The 70s and 80s Packers were awful.

This. For a good 20 year period the Packers were beyond bad.

Back when Tampa was equally terribly their annual games against one-another was billed as the 'Bay of Pigs' (Green Bay, Tampa Bay) by Chris Berman.

Like there was any doubt. even with the long drought of "suckage" we're still the best.

exactly what I was thinking......As previously stated shows how dominant those Landry and Johnson teams were when Dallas is still #1 even with the 20+ years of dry holes Jerry has hit.

thank you , Jerry.

Consistency ...we fans take for granted how good those Landry teams were.....even the down years weren't bad once he got it going, except for his last two. Hopefully last year is the start of another long string of winning.

Agree. Watching those teams it was just a question of who would we play for the right to go to the SB....

This is awesome! I showed my friend at work this. He always talks crap about the cowboys because he's a stealers fan he got pretty pissed and nothing bothers him lol. I myself thought pitt would be number 1. Those sb losses though rrrrrrr thats the ultimate fail to me. Id rather not even make the playoffs then go lose a sb!

If I weren't such a Cowboys fan, I would love to own the Lions. I would change the blue from that crappy Honolulu blue, to a better blue. Also, I would hire a top flight GM and HC, give them both patience to build a team the right way, via the draft with a spattering of FA. All I would ask of them is to build from the inside out......QB, OL, and DL first and foremost......then, go after whatever positions they want. Oh, and if a great K prospect comes around, I wouldn't care if they spent a high pick on him.....if he is money like Bailey has been, that is a great peace of mind luxury to have.
