CBS Sports latest 3 round mock

I know our history but I really don’t see is going TE in round two. Too many holes on defense. With a CB taken in round one I see us going either safety(Grant please) or DT(Marvin Wilson please).

the DT from FSU in round two? No thank you.

Tommy Tremble ND might be on our radar
Elijah Moore, Levi Onwuzurike, Elijah Molden would be good picks there.

Overview
Highly intriguing early entry tight end who appears to be scratching the surface of his future impact. He's not the same level of player, but Tremble's blocking toughness and athletic profile are reminiscent of Kellen Winslow Jr.'s when he entered the league. Tremble is a gritty, capable blocker at the point of attack and will really move the needle as a lead and move blocker in space. However, he lacks development as a route runner and has hands that fail to inspire confidence as a pass catcher. His versatility as a run blocker will allow offensive coordinators to shift him around formations and create favorable matchups in the passing game. If he's able to simply improve his hands status to average, his speed and athleticism should create chunk play opportunities. He has Day 2 value with Day 1 upside.

Let me get this straight

He can’t catch and can’t run routes but is otherwise a good TE? LOL

He would be a cheaper alternative to Blake Bell if we lose him in free agency and might be an upgrade as a blocking TE/HB. In two years he had 35 catches for 401 yards. He would have to work on his route running and hands but so did Dalton Schultz.

Strengths
  • Feisty play demeanor suits his love of contact.
  • Activated as blocker from a variety of formations.
  • Uses athletic talent to gain positioning after initial strike.
  • Accelerates and crashes into targets as lead blocker.
  • Smooth block-to-block transition to open the edge for outside run.
  • Blocking talent opens up play-action opportunities.
  • Athletic ability and speed stand out as pass catcher.
  • Bursts off the snap and races into route.
  • Basketball movement for easy route adjustments in traffic.
  • Can separate on second- and third-level routes.
  • Vast improvement from 2019 with contested catches.
  • Talent and athleticism for some pass protection asks.

Witten ran a 4.65 in 2003. He hasn't run that fast in more than 10 years.

I completely agree. His speed left him sometime around 2010. Witten was absolutely able to make people pay down the seam as a younger player. I thought you were saying that you wouldn’t like Witten as a prospect coming out of school.

If Frieiermuth is the next Witten, he’s absolutely worth a 2nd round pick.

I should add that I’m not even excited about this prospect, and not representing that I think he’s the next JW myself.

He's a guy you take a later round flier on. I've seen some mocks having him picked around 100. That seems a bit pricey to me and I've watched him for year at ND. He definitely has a skill set and some athleticism but he's raw for sure. His hands are OK, not great but not terrible. He's a good blocker and he enjoys blocking.

Javonte reminds me of Clinton Portis' running style. Stays low and always goes forward, fights..and has speed. Well rounded.

Isaiah McDuffie is the real deal. Would love to nab him in the 3rd/4th round.

What do you think of the The Tackles Hainsey and Eichenberg? Like Wisconsin, ND seems to produce good offensive lineman.

Agree completely which makes a TE in the 2nd a high probability.

Eichenberg is the better of the two and likely has the higher ceiling. Eichenberg probably lacks the feet and athleticism to play LT so his future is probably as a RT in the NFL. He's not in that top group with guys like Sewell, Slater, Darrisaw. He's probably a 2nd or early 3rd round guy but he's also probably a safe pick. High floor but low ceiling compared to the more elite OTs in this draft.

Hainsey's ceiling is as a RT or a backup swing tackle if he stays outside. Although if a team moves him inside, that might be his best chance at being a NFL starter. That being said, he's probably not as good an interior OL prospect as his teammate, Aaron Banks, who is also in the draft. So if you are drafting Hainsey to make him an OG and Banks is still on the board, you are better off taking Banks IMO.
