Top 50 free agents: Former top pick Williams is top player on open market

Williams just turned 27 and has 53 sacks in 5 1/2 seasons. (US Presswire)
My rule when ranking NFL free agents: Nobody age 30 or over in the top 10 -- unless you are a quarterback.

You can be 30 and a star, and you won't be atop my list. I just can't see the rationale in spending big money on a 30-or-older player when it's almost a certainty that the player won't be playing at a high level for the duration of the contract.

The target age is 26 or 27.

I never think of him until I see his name on a list like this, but if Robinson isn't brought back, I'd definitely make a play for Pierre Garcon.

I'm surprised Ray Rice is so low on the list. He's a top 3 running back right now.

yeah but RBs are a dime a dozen now. He might be the best RB in FA but the way the game is going makes him less important.

2..3..10...and 46...

Then Janoris, in the draft....and then the rest, all pass rush specialist.

Weed out the best pass rushers in TC....and there you go.

Thanks, and goodbye

Maybe even number 6, due to Wittens age, and we may not be able to get LR back.

Where is 51, 60, 75, 110??

That's who JG and JJ will go after.

I'm not high on Griffin that much, I don't think he fits Ryan scheme. I think they will look at Iloka in the draft and bring back Elam or sign Mike Adams to a one year deal.

If we sign Carr then I don't see a reason to draft a CB at 14 after the contract to Scandrick and Mike Jenkins on the team.
The same way I feel about Decastro. If we sign Nicks I don't see an early pick at OG in the 1st.
If we sign Carr and Nicks, pass rush will be first round.

Give me these guys:

3. Carl Nicks, G, New Orleans Saints: I consider him to be the best guard in the NFL. He is a nasty player who can block for the run or the pass. He turns 27 in May.

17. Tyvon Branch, S, Oakland Raiders: Branch led the Raiders in tackles and should have been in the Pro Bowl. He has improved in coverage as well. He turns 26 in December.

48. Paul Soliai, DT, Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins franchised him last year and he played for that tag. It won't happen again. But he is a solid player who will get play on the market. He turns 29 in December.

Then follow the rest of my mock draft below

If Williams, Carr and Nicks actually hit the market and we failed to even get one of them, my head will explode!

Can you even imagine getting all three?

Williams 7yrs 77mil 28milSB.......2012 Cap# 5.0mil

Carr 7yrs 70mil 24milSB.......2012 Cap# 4.5mil

Nicks 7yrs 63mil 21milSB.......2012 Cap# 4.0mil

We could afford $13.5 in 2012 cap dollars for these guys. I'd have a heart attack.

If we managed to get all three along with a solid draft, we will hoist this next season:

Steven Tulloch or D'Qwell Jackson, both ILBs. Hopefully both James and Brooks are gone, nobody else really stepped up and these are two guys that can come in and help Sean Lee right away (jackson in particular)

The idea of 3, 7 year contracts gives me palpatations. :laugh2:

We haven't had a ton of luck with long term deals. Usually by the time the player gets 3 or 2 years from the end of their deal, we're dying to ditch them.

We could follow the Eagles model. Dream Team II. Best part is, we could also still draft relatively high next season.

or we could be like Houston and be in the playoffs next year

IMO, the core of this team has a 3 year window with JG as HC

because of htis I think we absolutely have to be very aggressive this off season in FA

you figure one year to gel and then we make a run

this off season is critical IMO
