Dennis, Anyone?

---Enough of the media chiming in with their TERRELL OWENS positions. I think it is pretty clear who is on which side of this discussion by now.

It is time to hear the truth from the PLAYERS! All we have heard from Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Patrick Crayton etc etc...is that T.O. is a good teammate and works hard and wants to win worse than any of them. If that is the case...what is the problem? If that is not the case...it is time to get some of these players to tell the truth publicly. No more hiding behind "anonymous source". Jerry has a tough decision to make on this...he needs to call the important voices in his locker room into his office and simply ask...does T.O. help us win? or help us lose?

---Get ready North Texas...it is starting to feel like JERRY JONES is about to drop a bombshell. I truly believe Mr. Jones has been doing some very serious soul searching in the very quiet last few weeks...and I truly believe he will wise up and realize...he has the wrong head coach.

In light of the events of the past 48 - 72 hours, does anyone still think this is going to happen???????

Dale Hansen ripped Dennis the other day, and with good reason.

Dennis was saying this nonsense on Randy Galloway's show on Friday (I think it was Friday).

On Hansen's show, he later asked what player is calling for any player to be gone? I don't recall any player saying "I hope Pacman is gone," or "I hope Tank is outta here". Players rarely do that publicly, and Hansen claimed that plenty of players had voiced that to him and others privately.

It also appears to me that Dennis is friends with TO, so he probably isn't objective in any event.

Dennis=fail.

Not quite, IMO...

Some past opinions by Dennis on T.O.

1/9/09
---My position on TERRELL OWENS is a lot like my position on politics. I used to be hanging out there heavily on one side of the discussion...but over the years...find myself creeping more toward the middle. It has become obvious to me that the chemistry in the Cowboy's locker room has severely eroded since last May. How could... even the most vocal T.O. supporters...not blame him for a large part of that?
http://pod08.prospero.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?nav=main&webtag=KTVT_Bullpen&entry=320

12/20/08
---As a REPORTER who constantly thinks about what questions should have been asked...or shouldn't have been asked...or how to ask them...I am wondering why nobody...including me...came right out and asked JASON WITTEN if he said those things about TERRELL OWENS to Ed
Werder. Whatever his response...it would have been on the record and out in the open. I am pretty sure if things were reversed...we would have had no problem asking Owens.
http://pod08.prospero.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?nav=main&webtag=KTVT_Bullpen&entry=310

12/12/08
---The "TERRELL OWENS IS TAKING DOWN ANOTHER TEAM" bandwagon has screamed out of the garage and is recklessly crashing into everything in its path. Way too easy. If the Cowboys are indeed a sinking ship...is T.O. really the only captain that has steered it into an iceberg?

No, Jerry Jones does not.

What Jerry Jones should do is act like a general manager.

What Jerry Jones should do is stand 100% behind his head coach no matter whom he decides it will be for the 2009 season.

What Jerry Jones should do is tell his coach:
  • Handle this
  • This may or may not be a roster problem
  • You have my full and unquestionable support because I feel that you're the best football team and player advisor I could have right now
  • And I will back any decision you decide to make
What Jerry Jones should then do is wait for his head coach to ACT like a head coach and do whatever is necessary to make his team as good as it can possibly be based upon his head coach's understanding of professional football. An NFL head coach is supposed to have one of the best professional football minds. Don't avoid that resource. USE IT INSTEAD!

...but I doubt that's ever going to happen.

IMO, Jerry could've done all those things you suggest and Wade could act on all those things you suggest and it wouldn't matter ONE bit re: fan perception.

What's sad is, I think Jerry does do this about 90% of the time... But that other 10% spoils a lot of it.

Steve Dennis has been one of the only supporters of terrel owens since he has been here. He blamed everything on parcells in 06 and said owens needs the ball, he puffed his chest all last year about how when owens gets the ball you win 13 games.

That is the reason I believe owens agreed to do inside the huddle with Steve Dennis hosting, someone must have told him how Dennis always stood up for him.

Steve Dennis finally saw the light the second half of this season and started to call a duck a duck.

But anyone that says Steve Dennis is not a fan of owens is uninformed.

If it were correctly leaked to the media that Jerry Jones met with players (as suggested by Steve Dennis) before a decision were made, would fan perception still be as questionable as you are implying?

Consider me uninformed then. I don't follow Steve Dennis to have known his positions on alot of things. I just troll the CBS11 blogs for Cowboys nuggets.

Yep. There's a deep-seated dislike of Wade and Jerry. I think that no matter what they do, it is going to be met with cynicism by outside perception.

Brian Stewart was fired. Jerry made Wade do it. You know Wade wasn't going to fire his boy. Jerry is still meddling. Blah, blah, blah.

Jerry may have very well told Wade he needed to fire Stewart, but instead of looking at it as an opportunity to upgrade a position on the coaching staff, it's more cupcake and Jerry the meddler nonsense.

well it wasnt meant as a slight at you wg, just a simple statement because I know what this thread will turn into.

Steve Dennis was maybe the only guy I ever heard talk about owens like he was the missing piece and a great player and person. WHen he had his show with jen engle, it was worse than this message board, that is all they talked about was that frigging guy. And dennis loves everything about him.

Like I said, He changed his tune after seeing some of his handy work up close. That or laufenberg finally got through to him.

I didn't take it as a slight. Just acknowledging I didn't have all the info.

Brian Stewart was a weak assistant coach. Maybe he will have greater success elsewhere, but he never led the defense decisively here after having ample opportunity. Relieving him of that responsibility was a good football decision. If there are fans who throw terms such as "cupcake" and "meddler" at Phillips or Jones for letting Stewart go, then they are completely wrong for doing so.

Yet, letting go of Stewart is not the scenario Steve Dennis is suggesting. He is stating that there should be an owner/general manager/player conference before a decision should be made which will impact the roster. I disagree. Let the head coach convene the players, conduct that meeting, take his decision to general manager/owner and allow the general manager to follow through with the suggested player moves.

If those events were leaked or announced to the media instead of what Dennis is suggesting, I believe that more fans (but not all) would respect the head coach even more. It would demonstrate that he is the primary voice of the team while proving that the owner/general manager is the leader of the franchise--and I'll bet that the players would think more highly of him as well.

I feel that there would be a differing reaction amongst fans if they were to find out who met solely with the players. Granted, knowing who was primarily responsible for roster change would not satisfy the entire fan nation, but I don't believe that the entire fanbase would discredit the head coach and owner/general manager for enacting a solid team decision-making process either. We're not all Bachs, you know.

Just kidding Bach. Love you sig. :)

I agree that it should be Wade's responsibility to form the leadership council and convene with certain players as you suggest.

I just disagree that even if it was done your way, the perception of Wade and Jerry would not change of some of their most vocal opponents, media and fans. For some, nothing less than Wade being fired and Jerry ultimately stepping down would satisfy them.

All the receivers defended T.O., most recently it was Crayton, who did it publically. On the other hand, Garret was first called out by T.O. for running an inept scheme. And then Romo followed suit, putting "it" on Garrett; I guess getting your brains beat in game after game will cause you to say "enough is enough". That's what Romo was saying to Garrett, in not so many words, when he said "the scheme needs to change".
