exactly.....this is the crap I am sick of...this is the NFL...we have not won since 1996....I will take all the 3 point wins I can get...heck Pitt and its fans and the media that covers them relish 3 point wins. Learning how to wins games like we won against the Bucs last year will ensure in the future that we don't give tight games away like we did to Pitt last year

it would be struggling against this bucs team. team should win by 14+ unless they pull the starters for the 3rd and 4th.

Here's the great thing about the NFL: we have no idea how good or bad the 2009 Bucs are. Because the season hasn't even started.

If we win by 10 on Sunday, you'd say we "struggled" in that win. But then what if the Bucs end up winning 10 games this year? Will you just "take back" the "struggled" opinion from Week 1?

I just can't fathom how a reasonable fan can be dissatisfied with a 10 point win on the road, on opening day.

yep, but I'm not "upset" because of criticism of the Cowboys, I'm concerned about the reality of this actually occurring and whether this is a good tone to set before the first game of the season.

Entirely different from the point I made in my thread

Notice I wasn't being defensive or bashing Dennis, I was asking the smart folks on this forum to help me determine whether my concerns were legitimate.

I'm afraid Jerry and Wade are turning this team into the Glanville coached Falcons. A joke to the rest of the league.

Dennis' stuff resonates with a lot of fans because folks are both frustrated and afraid the team will once again to fail to achieve any sort of progress. Last December's results makes all of the "analysis" seem to ring true whether it is or not.

I declared after the draft that I'm reserving judgment on this team until I see results on the field (and particularly in December) that make them worthy of confidence. Let the games being and we'll see what happens.

[So...the scene at COWBOY'S PRACTICE this week...no pads on the players...a disc jockey cranking music...the players all laughing and dancing to the beat...uh...tell me again what has changed from last December? ]

Uh Oh, what does Hostile and DC Fanatic say about the above statement. With the players all laughing, not working out in pads and dancing to the beat, sounds like a real determined team huh Hostile and DC?

[Can't wait to get back on T.V. this Sunday morning with Cowboy's Hall of Famer RANDY WHITE. (Cowboys Gameday...10:30am...Sunday morning on CBS-11). Of all the ex-players (aside from you Babe) in media roles...he is my favorite. I love to hear him get all spittin' fired up when talking Cowboys.] I love randy white too, now he gets fired up.

hit the nail on the head! I think the cowboys will win this sunday. But the attitude of not working out in pads has got to change.

Why is it that I feel like all the guys who think it is so bad to practice without pads leading up to a game... are guys who didn't play very much football in their lives?

:signmast:

Anyone notice that the Bucs didn't wear pads either? And Chuckie didn't have them wear pads the year before?

The best friend Tampa Bay has in this game is the rain.

If it's a monsoon, then all bets are off. It could be an ugly game and low scoring.

If the weather isn't much of a factor, Dallas will crush them.

CRUSH!

I didn't make any prognostications about the game vs the Bucs, so I wasn't taking out "emotional insurance"

The comment about a DJ in practice didn't sit well with me because of the perceived tone this sets for the coming season. I'm not saying its an issue, I am saying I am concerned it could be an issue. This is why I asked for opinions on whether my concern is valid or not so I could have a better way to gauge if my concerns are valid.

I just happen to believe that practice should be taken seriously, especially for a coach whose job is probably on the line. I like the philosophy that practices should be the hardest part so that the real games seem easy and fun by comparison.

The image of a DJ and players dancing around leaves me with the impression that the intensity is not where it should be before they have even played a game. If this is the case, I don't believe this is a good tone to set because I believe in the concept that you play like you practice and this team isn't good enough or done enough (imo) to be taking a lackadasical approach to practice (if that's even what is occurring).

I wouldn't have a problem with using things like this (DJ, etc) as a reward when the team wins, but to do so before they have even stepped foot on the field doesn't seem wise to me.

It seems to me that little rewards can go a long way with players. I remember hearing Denver players (during their super bowl years of the late 90's) talking about how they were extra motivated to win because if they did, they would get to have a hat day (no helmets, just ball caps or something to that effect) if they won the previous week.

A good coach can use little things like this as well as psychological maneuvers to keep the team focused and motivated. I think there is value
in this, but I could be wrong, that's why I asked if it even mattered.

Please recognize that I am not making any accusations or drawing any firm conclusions, I am merely asking questions and expressing a degree of concern because I want them to get over the hump and succeed so badly.

It wasn't the lack of pads that gave me pause, it was the DJ and dancing around at practice that made me scratch my head.

I imagine that loud music was played to get the offense used to working under noisy conditions, and in between plays or on the sidelines a couple of guys did a little dance to the music for a second or two. Dennis makes it sound like a freaking disco ball dropped from the sky and suddenly the scene transformed to a night at the Da Club. You can bet that's not the way it went.

It's just not realistic or even desirable to expect players to never, ever have any fun out there. People who expect every player to have a 24-7 death stare on his face are never going to be satisfied.

who doesn't? but the need to point out every POTENTIAL problem *IS* emotional insurance.

good to see you got a great policy.

#1 they should be wearing pads. they wear pads during the games correct? I understand if they aren't wearing pads for the walkthrough but not during practice.

#2 surely Jerry can find somebody to put crowd noise on a cd to get a feel for a road game rather than bring in a freaking dj. while Wade is talking these guys are also listening to their favorite songs. gee I wonder why our wrs and dbs seem to have trouble every week on where they're supposed to be....

these guys should be focused on what they're supposed to do and what the coaches are saying.

Who says it was an actual DJ? Once ata family reunion, I was the one responsible for playing the music. I guess that made me DJ. Point is, some staffer could have been assigned to play the music needed to simulate crowd noise, and the only name for that is disc jockey. Dennis was just using provocative language.

Looks like it worked.
