can you tell me why it is?
do we know the entire situation or did someone paint a bad picture you were too willing to see so it suddenly became true?
it was a patriots fan a few years back that explained it to me in 2 words i read in his post.
emotional insurance.
if they fail, you have your blankie here to say I KNEW IT.
I didn't make any prognostications about the game vs the Bucs, so I wasn't taking out "emotional insurance"
The comment about a DJ in practice didn't sit well with me because of the perceived tone this sets for the coming season. I'm not saying its an issue, I am saying I am concerned it could be an issue. This is why I asked for opinions on whether my concern is valid or not so I could have a better way to gauge if my concerns are valid.
I just happen to believe that practice should be taken seriously, especially for a coach whose job is probably on the line. I like the philosophy that practices should be the hardest part so that the real games seem easy and fun by comparison.
The image of a DJ and players dancing around leaves me with the impression that the intensity is not where it should be before they have even played a game. If this is the case, I don't believe this is a good tone to set because I believe in the concept that you play like you practice and this team isn't good enough or done enough (imo) to be taking a lackadasical approach to practice (if that's even what is occurring).
I wouldn't have a problem with using things like this (DJ, etc) as a reward when the team wins, but to do so before they have even stepped foot on the field doesn't seem wise to me.
It seems to me that little rewards can go a long way with players. I remember hearing Denver players (during their super bowl years of the late 90's) talking about how they were extra motivated to win because if they did, they would get to have a hat day (no helmets, just ball caps or something to that effect) if they won the previous week.
A good coach can use little things like this as well as psychological maneuvers to keep the team focused and motivated. I think there is value
in this, but I could be wrong, that's why I asked if it even mattered.
Please recognize that I am not making any accusations or drawing any firm conclusions, I am merely asking questions and expressing a degree of concern because I want them to get over the hump and succeed so badly.
