DENNIS, ANYONE?

Posted by CBS11

---It seems to me that TONY ROMO is a quarterback...who truly has a golfer's mentality. After listening to him break his virtual silence at the first Cowboy's OTA session this past week...I was struck by his sort of "stand-offish" approach to everything going on around him with the team. He is a guy...like most serious golfers...who just wants to play the game...and work on improving his own game. If you are too results driven...in this mentality...it ruins the process. If this is true...is that enough when you are the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys?

---I think Jerry's new big screen scoreboard at the new stadium is TOO BIG. First, it makes you a little dizzy to watch action on it. Secondly, if live action is shown on it...which I think is the plan...nobody in the stadium will watch the field. They won't be able to help it. And finally, nothing should be that big....not even the cheerleader's...uh...boots.

He does have a golfer's mentality. Which I don't see as a bad but a good thing. Except for after losing game interviews.

Whats the difference between a football player's mentality and a golfer's mentality?

I personally think Steve is a little mixed up or confused, whichever way you want to interpret it, Almost every football player , plays golf, for relaxation, for stress management.

Mr Dennis maybe should try the game sometime before making judgements of what he knows nothing about. Tony Romo is most definitely a complete pro quarterback.

Who is this guy? To say someone has a golfer's mentality is simplistic and assumes all golfers think the same. Do Phil Mickleson and Tiger Woods think the same? Mickleson is a gambler who goes for big shots regardless of the situation and Tiger knows when to lay up when the match is on the line. Two polar oppsites when it comes to style of play.

I would say Romo is closer to Mickleson if we're comparing styles, but to say he's like all golfers is just plain silly.

Best post in the thread and way better than Steve Dennis' article which was a piece of crap. It is painfully clear that Mr. Dennis doesn't know anything about the mentality of either one and just shot his mouth off.

IMO Dennis says this because he's a huge golf nut who plays all the time (and is a good player). So like most people do, he's projecting his own experiences onto the situation.

And I think Tony was unusually standoffish and vague last week because this was the first time he had to address the TO issue, and he was trying to avoid any controversy.

I also think Tony is tired of the media cha cha cha.

Romo is a football player that plays golf...and basketball, and baseball....well.

These writers have too much time on their hands. It's like he didn't have anything else to write so he just threw out some nonsense to see how it played. I wonder if Dennis ever even played football.

And as far as being distant...I think Aikman took that award years ago. We saw how that turned out.

This is the whole left-brain/right-brain argument, and it has merit. Mickleson - while a gambler - is nowhere near as creative and intuitive a player as Woods. Under pressure, Phil reverts to the technical aspects of his game in an effort to hit his best shot. Under pressure, Tiger relies on what his senses tell him - he "feels" the shot. I think Tony Romo actually does not gamble as much as you might think, but does have an excellent feel for the game which should improve with each game and each season.

Bingo. I'm betting after all the hoopla these past few years he will be doing as much as possible to lay low and stay out of the limelight with his actions and words.

Granted, that will be difficult considering his circumstances, but I can't blame him for getting tired of the incessant nature of the paparazzi today.

If he's tired of the media, then Dallas is the last place he should be playingn maybe he needs to go to Seattle where the media rarely even glances.

Dealing w/ the media is like #3 on the list of "Things You Have To Do As A Dallas Cowboy" (btw: 1-Win 2-Not Lose) :p

That's a ridiculous statement.

It's one thing to expect to see the media about your team, and in Tony's case, your girlfriend, but they stalk him all over the place.

If they could get pictures of him taking a dump, I'm sure they would.

And somehow, that's ok and to be expected?

It really was, but I consider the source.

Well, I guess if Romo bowled instead of golfed, he'd have a bowler mentality, according to Dennis.

:)

Can't put too much stock into these types of articles.
