The fact he's not getting surgery tells me 2 things....

1. The injury wasn't as bad as suggested.

2. He should still get the surgery to shave the bone down to prevent injury in the future. It's going to be a problem as long as they do nothing...Mark my words....someone who has delt with this my entire adult life.
