CFO Sports: Dallas Cowboys DT Mazi Smith is getting better (film study)

He looks like he will and is contributing. If he would have been a 2nd round pick, he would look much better. However, 2nd round was impossible because the Chiefs were going to take him.

Need to perform faster, be productive on the field faster even as a reserve, need to flash on film.......faster......not 2-3 years down the road.
Like I said, he was a low floor prospect. Anyone who watched him before the draft knew that. No one listened and they just thumped their chest over taking a run stuffer.

You take a low floor player, you have to expect that kind of trajectory. Thats why you avoid low floor players in round 1

They would have got nothing at dtackle if they had passes on Mazi. The Chiefs would have taken him.

He's improving. We could use a pair of DT's and solid rotational depth.

He's a good 2025 rotational guy if they hit FA like they should

Unless they are Aaron Donald, the majority of DT’s in the league don’t figure it out till year 3. I’m just glad he is starting to figure it out because he was atrocious
It would cost them 8M to post June cut Mazi this March.

only reason he will still have a job with us.

smith is havng a good year right now. the first four games he was still playing awful but the last four have been really better. maybe the defensive lineman coach of last year did not know how to get him going. this years coach is doing a better job of coaching him. just have to see what happens next year because he might have a new coach next year.

Quite a coincidence that some of our lesser players look better against teams like the Giants and upcoming teams like the Panthers and Bengals

Reality will rear its head again when we face the Eagles again and those "improving" players resume their previous status

should have let them have him

Our 1st round draft pick is getting better.....halfway past season 2? That's a problem that no one wants to see.

That's not entirely fair. He lost a ton of weight and was asked to play out of position his rookie season. It was a lost year.

It doesn't mean he shouldn't be further along based on his experience this year and draft stock, but he is improving. I dont see a need to crap on him currently.

excuse after excuse
learning technique is not something he SHOULD have missed out on either last camp or this camp.
The basic things he has trouble with such as being quick off the mark is on him and no one else

I'd challenge anyone to lose 30lbs of mass and participate in any activity requiring strength. Imagine a fighter dropping 3 weight classes over a few months. Even if the coaching was legit he had no @## to put behind his technique. It was always gross negligence how he was handled year one.
