CFP thread

Is there anyone here who doesn't think Stockton got concussed on that shot he took the play before Georgia's 2nd TD?

I mean I know he's tough and I applaud him for getting off the mat but good grief that was vicious.....

The only reason I bring this up is I just get tired of them paying lip service to "player safety"

Why not just admit--these are big time players in big time games and they're accepting the reality of the long term health implications?

No way his brain wasnt rattled from the impact of that collision IMO

Says the ND fanboy? lol
I don’t get the joke.

And the reality is the SEC isn’t the conference it was a decade ago. NIL and the portal have balanced things out more.

Bama had no business being in the playoffs given their last 5-6 games. But the committee protected them for some reason. It’s high time to kill the committee process and go back to the BCS system of ranking teams.

He was ejected.
Thanks Sydla.
I don't think that should've been called targeting. First, the defender didn't come in helmet first, he came in with his shoulder. Granted the receiver took a hard hit, but part of that hit resulted from the receiver's own momentum. Sometimes I think they just overdo some of those calls.

You don’t have to hit a player with your helmet. The rule states forcible contact with head or neck area. It does not say specifically with your helmet. So yes, hitting a player with your shoulder in the head can be targeting.

I agree and I think simple results support this statement

First 9 years of the CFP, 10 of the 18 spots in the title game were filled by SEC schools

And 6 SEC teams won the title

The last 2 CFPs have seen an SEC free championship game, And its a reasonable possibility again this year.

One spot is going to be either IU or Oregon. And the Canes are absolutely capable of beating either Georgia or Ole Miss.

Like you said the portal and NIL have eliminated the blue bloods monopoly on stockpiling top talent 3 deep. I'm not SEC bashing, they still play excellent football but they are not head and shoulders above everyone else as was clearly the case previously

Thanks Sydla.

He definitely led with shoulder but the player was judged defenseless and he definitely had impact directly to the receivers head

I thought it was the correct call. JMHO

looking at the replay, this whole defenseless claim is all too often taken too far

That's a valid topic of discussion but the way the rule currently in force is worded, I think it was the correct call. The receiver did not have a chance to establish himself after the catch before the contact

End of the day if you're going to blow a guy up just hit him in the chest and you're good

If you make initial contact at/around the head you are at risk of being on the wrong end of a judgment call or review

Rebels got their TD. Georgia 21-19
It's anybody's ballgame so far.
