for everyone that's been complaining about newmans play this season, champ bailey has been burned twice tonight for touchdowns by jerry porter.

even the best get beat sometimes.

Newman, after a surpisingly bad start, might get probowl consideration now. Unlikely he'll make it, since corners get in on either picks or reputation...

1. Bailey isn't the best. He gets beaten by the better receivers in the NFL often. ESPN hype. There is no question he is athletic and can catch, but he isn't perfect. Kind of like Ed Reed. Did you see how many missed tackle he had today?

McAlister and Surtain are better.

2. There are no cornerbacks in the NFC with a "reputation". Only three of them had made the Pro Bowl before, and one of them isn't a starter anymore.

Taylor, Bly, and Barber.

There are a hand full of young cornerbacks in the NFC who have a chance. Allen, Peterson, Bly, Barber, Kelly, Smoot, Springs, Lucas, Trufant, Sheppard, Brown, Newman, McQuarters, Manning...

Not too many elite names. I can tell you that Sheppard has let up two touchdowns, a sack and has four interceptions (two touchdowns). Brown has two sacks and has let up one touchdown.

Newman has two interceptions, no sacks and no touchdowns. He let up two vs Minnesota, one vs us, what else? Didn't Gardner beat him?

Lucas has five interceptions and a touchdown.

What people don't consider with champ is he is always left on an island and the safeties roll their coverage to the other corner. I know it was like that in Washington. I could never understand why they thought so little of him...

To defend Champ, he was very very close to breaking up every one of those throws. Its not like he was completely burned. Plus, the weather was horrible and I think a big advantage to receivers.

Two touchdowns and a 3.9 yards per catch? 6.0 yards per catch? More drops than catches (obviously exagerated)? Three touchdowns on 274 touches? Three lost fumbles?

The worst offense in the NFL?

For possibly the best cornerback in the NFL and a second round pick?

They robed you blind.

The bottom line was, if the Skins were smart, they could've kept Champ, not signed Springs, had a 2nd round pick, and ended up with Julius Jones or even Kevin Jones if they wanted. Dan Snyder is seriously worse with personnel than Jerry Jones at his worst.

I would have traded for Dillion, he is the perfect back for that system. Their pick was higher than the pick the Patriots gave the Bengals.

Thats not portis' fault though.......If the line doesn't block well and the QB can't understand the system then why blame the best player on your team.....

Everyone knows portis is going to get the ball. How can you run with 8 in the box?.... EASY you do play action and pass against 3 DB's......But guess what that doesn't work because our 7 blocking can't stop their 7 coming for more than 3 seconds......=sack.....

Portis is not a DENVER system back, he is a ZONE BLOCKING back. Gibbs did not relize this until after the phily game. ( portis has a stinger therefore didn't get many carries at all to test the new blocking style ) Once betts came in they changed the run blocking scheme back to normal and guess what BETTS averaged ( 1 ) yard a carry without his long........

quit second guessing portis because he's not getting any help.........It's like saying McNabb sucked last year because he didn't have any receivers or RB's to give the ball too.........

the day you admit to that is the day I say portis isn't the best back in the East.

Portis was an average second round pick, a good back and a starter on most teams, but not great. To trade perhaps the best cornerback in the NFL and a second round pick for an average back is crazy. A denver system back (a backup like Griffin, Droughns, Gary or Anderson) is good for 1200 yards and a 4.8 rush average. Portis got 5.5 yards per carry and 1500 yards in his two seasons in Denver, so he is better than than but not great.

A great back will get yards no matter what. Tomlinson had 1645 yards last season and 100 catches on the worst team in the NFL. He still had a 5.3 rushing average and a 7.3 receiving average.

Tiki has 1145 yards rushing and 40 catches on the team with perhaps the worst offensive line in the NFL with an average quarterback. He has a 5.1 rushing average and a 12.4 receiving average.

Against great backs, teams almost always have seven men in the box. The Steelers?

Whats the excuse for the drops?

Tiki is the best back in the east, followed by Westbrook and then Portis. Jones is catching up, but he only started in two games.

For the first six games of the season last year, McNabb did suck. For the last ten, he was the best quarterback in the NFL. I still don't know what happened to him after that Westbrook punt return.

You are so full of it you're eyes are turning brown....

There were too many inaccurate things in that post to even comment.....

We got what we wanted and they got what they wanted. Even trade.

You are over bias for your own team and incapible of making a rational comparison.

I will say the denver broncos got the better end of the trade because they got the 2nd round pick...even if you make bailey and portis an even wash.

However people DO have to realize that Champ was not staying in washington...he did not want to be there and even though they offered him a very nice contract he did not want it...was not just about the money because let's face it you can say many things about snyder...being cheap is not one of them...Champ wanted out of Washington...I think he got tired of coach after coach coming through and the Front Office style of so many changes every offseason.

So Washington HAD to get something for him because he did not want to stay and would you really want a player to play for your team, even if he is franchised, if he does NOT want to be on your team?

So they traded for portis and denver knew washington was in a spot and probably demanded a 2nd rounder with it.

But hey that is just the way I see it.

You'd be surprised.

I was a Portis fan two seasons ago when he was with Denver. I watched almost everyone of his games as a rookie because he was on my fantasy team back when I did fantasy football (I won by the way).

He is not a great back, Westbrook is not a great back, Barber is close.

Hey but you said it...it must be true. Good luck winning out and winning the Super Bowl.
