Chances of Vinny coming back this year....

Hopefully slim and none, and none left last year with the 6-10 record. Vinnie is an interception machine. Interceptions are bad, but I think more then half of his last year were in the 4th qtr.

Some of that can be contributed to being behind in games when defense knows you have little choice but to pass. Anytime defense knows what you are going to do it is much easier to defend it.

Ok, So Q isn't coming back, but is Vinny?

The guy knows our offense and was effective in spurts last year. As a backup qb, he would be ideal.

Granted our age at qb would go up tenfold but it would improve the position tenfold as well.

IF these two young guys show nothing, i can see Parcells bringing him back.
When did he leave? I thought he just changed his number. :D

This is a joke, right? Carter was no more a running threat than Troy aikman ever was. Just becuase he could outrun a Linebacker on a video game, doesn't mean he makes a pimple on an NFL's QB's as.... Besides, you have to figure out which vacant crack house he currently resides at before you could even try to contact Carter.

I've got to tell you, I really thought (and hope) you were joking when you posted that. Really.

Bluewave, you didn't read my entire post did you? I said he was a running threat on NFL2k5 ... the video game.

So in a sense, I was joking ... but I wasn't, because he really is an amazing running threat on NFL2k5.

:D

I would rather see Quincy Carter or Anthony Wright over this joker testeverde

I don't want to even hear Vinny's name unless someone is trashing that S.O.B.

I don't want someone as old as our mom throwing lame ducks to our WR's

the Vinny "era" is over and I include that in my thanks to God every night

hahah.

The only way we see vinny again is if Homo/Renson get hurt. One of them won't be cut to bring Vinny back.

My problem with bringing him in would be the age. Do you just outright release a younger guy like Romo or Henson, both of whom he was a little something invested in, to bring in a one-year stop gap at the backup position?

I think if we want to compete this year we have to. Cut Henson and cut our losses. If we don't cut Henson, cut Romo. But we need a quality #2.

If Henson struggles in preseason, I think it's already in the works. Parcells is too old to let the sesaon fall on a struggling Henson. But, if Testaverde has to be brought back this season, we may be having to start over (franchise QB wise) and hope Bledsoe can hold up a few years. Dare I mention a name that will be a free agent next offseason. It begins with Chris and ends in Simms.

No thanks to Sims, he couldn't handle the pressure in college, he couldn't handle being a backup in Tampa, that's why they brought McCown in, how's he going to handle the scrutiny he'll get here.

Running qb winning the super bowl? What does he think Elway and Young were, pocket statues like him?

I still maintain that he is a quality backup player. Looking at what he did last season for 15.5 games, he performed pretty well for a guy that was supposed to be the backup. It's just that, at his age and with his skillset, he should not be starting an entire season.

I think it depends on the situation. If Henson/Romo show zip, then you gotta make a decision. The decision will largely be based on what else we have. Bledsoe goes down and all you have is Romo and Henson, not ready, then you got a big problem.

Both young guys have to show some stuff IMO. If both guys basically show nothing or not much, I don't see both guys still on the active roster at the start of the season. Maybe one guy stays and we go out and sign a Vet. Again, who you sign depends on who's available. I just think that Vinnie is never real far from BPs mind, where this is concerned.

Most of that can be atributed to Vinny having a tired old arm that went dead as the game wore on. There was not zip on his throws late in the games and the defenders could come from halfway across the field to pick them off.

Lets hope not...

If he is back that doesn't bode well for the team...

If you listen to Phil Simms during the Cleveland game, Testaverde is the greatest, most physically fit Quarterback in the NFL. There's nowhere he can't throw the ball. It's almost sickening, Simms is talking up Vinny every chance he gets.

That was before Vinny threw the 3 interceptions in 5 attempts. I think Garcia and Testaverde were having an interception contest. Simms got real quiet after that.

There was a huge falloff in Vin's arm over the past few years. As recently as week 17, 2000, he put up 69 passes vs the Ravens, and tho of course, he threw some picks, they were NOT lack of zip related, just the usual dumbarse moves (like not heeding Al Groh's instructions not to throw a usless pass to the flats right before halftime).

His arm didn't seem to have fallen off much in 01, but under Hackett, as opposed to Henning, the long ball wasn't that much of an issue. Even Vin can still dink and dunk.

Once he was replaced by Pennington in 2002 in game 5, no one got to see him for a full season again. He started the first 7 games of 2003, as Chad had been hurt in preseason, five of them losses. By the end of that season, he had been demoted to 3rd string, which is why he left NY.

It was three full years since the man had played 16 games...

.. I think Bill himself realized the wear and tear on his arm would be considerable, but hoped the run game would balance that factor out.

But now the entire NFL knows Vin is suited for short-term, spot relief duty only. He's not even a long reliever anymore.

I think a healthy running game would go a very long way to helping this thou. I mean, Vinnie had something like the 8th highest total pass attempts in the league last year. That's really a great deal to ask from a 41 year old QB IMO. Vinnie needs to be around 20 to 25 passes, per game. He was at like 31 last year.
