Change a NFL Rule

While waiting for the cuts/waiver signings to come in, I thought it might be fun to play dictator of the competition commitee for the day. Here's how it works.. You need to change/make a new rule. You also have to describe why you would make the change. Ok, my rule:

I would change PUP eligibility status to end two weeks into training camp. Why? This would encourage teams to start hitting and encourage tackling practice. It would lower the perverse incentive to avoid contact and could only improve the overall level of play.

I'd make it manditory all structures of any kind must be a minimum of 90 feet above the playing field.

Replay similar to college, none of this 2 challenge nonsense or reviews under 2 minutes.

I think the current replay/challenge rules are dumb that's why. The refs should get it right, not end the game before the allotted network timeslot.

Hold onto the ball until the whistle blows the play dead. I hate fumble reviews, and I don't see that it matters where the guy's knee was if he couldn't hold onto the ball.

I'd change defensive pass interference to be a 15-yard penalty and automatic first down, like it is in college. Having this thing be a spot foul in the NFL is just dumb, and bails out too many long bombs by QBs who don't have a prayer of actually completing a Hail Mary.

Not worried about downfield muggings?

More worried about a WR coming back for a underthrown ball and making contact with the DB. Refs almost never call that as offensive interference, and that is more common than downfield muggings.

Agreed, I hate how it bails out QBs like Jamarcus especially since the game already favors the offense.

Yes, but with that rule change downfield muggings would be far more common. Why would a cornerback ever allow a 40 yard pass when he can just slam into the dude to guarantee only 15 yards, if he thinks it can be caught. I think interference calls bailing out inaccurate throws is the lesser of two evils.

I personally would change the OT rules, if not in the regular season, absolutely in the playoffs.

OT Regular season, each team should get a chance to score. If the receiving team scores, they kick off and the other team gets a shot.

In Post-Season I think OT should just be like a 5 to 8 minute quarter, that is played to the finish.

I can't stand a teams playoffs hopes or playoff wins being heavily impacted by a coin flip.

It is now, but it'll be more common to mug on deep balls if the consequence is just 15 yards. It'll basically be the end of Hail Marys at the end of halves.
