Jerry should be living the most exotic and dream life right now on a yacht with his wife in some of the most beautiful places in the world. A staff of servants. Helicopter to wherever. Nope. Pass. Gotta prove things that no one is gonna buy or care about anyway.

No one is gonna stop him from demanding that “football man” be chiseled onto his cathedral of a grave. Is that what it’s all about?? That’s sad. Really is.

This last deal he did, did they really need that? Did he really need to be involved? Come on Jerry enjoy your life. Your ego ruling you is pathetic.

That’s fine. I just don’t see the point of making all that money if you’re not gonna use it. I’m sure he has a great lifestyle though.

Guys like that keep score by how much you’re worth. Ridiculously ego driven but that’s probably what got them there in the first place.

Very long article about the transition from Jerry to Stephen. No claims a real GM will be hired. Just that Stephen has no ego issues and will cut out a lot of the nonsense around the organization.

The approach has irked some former players. Woodson, whose commercial real estate firm rents office space at The Star, the Cowboys’ 91-acre practice facility that doubles as an exorbitant entertainment and business venture, puts it this way: “The team keeps making emotional decisions. They keep guys because Jerry likes them personally. I don’t think that leash will be as long with Stephen.”

Stephen’s deal? Restraint. Rigidity. A weakness, he calls it, if he’s not careful.

“With agents these days, you give them an inch and they’ll take a mile,” Stephen says. He doesn’t like giving an inch, never has. “If a deal’s within striking distance, Jerry will lose this point and this point and this point and if it gets done, he’ll live with it. It’ll eat at me a little more.”

So looks like their share of comstock resources was worth $4.9B on January 1st of this year and is now worth $3.0B. Down $1.9B in 9 months (still up from their original various purchases prices). Maybe that's why we didn't sign Pickens...I kid, I kid...

I have a very strong belief that Stephen is a football idiot and an eventual train wreck running the Cowboys. However two players who I consider among the smartest to ever play here in Aikman and Woodson disagree with me. That does make me reassess things.

I'll probably still agree with myself in review but there will be some reflection first.

Unless he steps back and lets competent people take charge. Which is what he's said he'll do, and what the signs point toward.

I think Stephen would love to just be the owner, handle the contracts, and have his voice heard but ultimately make McClay the GM and let him do his thing. It wouldn't surprise me if to learn — that should it somehow ever get out — that he McClay have talked about this and that's why McClay has stuck around when he possibly could've gotten GM jobs elsewhere.

I suggest Stephen doesn't have an ego is absurd. Does he defer to his father? Yes he does. But he is his father's son. Maybe not to the point of ridiculousness that Jerry goes to about this being the GM. About it has to be Jerry getting the credit. But to be sure Stephen has an ego.

Just hiring a GM isn't enough. I'm not certain he will want to step into that role Jerry has of being the GM. But the type of GM he hires will tell the real tale about Stephen's ego. Does he give that man carte blanche to run the organization in terms of player personnel acquisitions? Or does he keep a tight rein on him as far as contracts and what a player costs? And even that question has layers of the grip he uses to run the Dallas Cowboys.

But to say he has no ego is naïve.
