Changed my mind about OC

I'll preface this with the fact that my 1st choice would be to replace Garrett as the HC with a top Offensive minded HC.

In the scenario with Garrett remaining as HC, it would be difficult to get anything other than another retread like Linehan as the OC. The primary method to get top college coaches to run the offense is to hire them as the Head Coach. If a top offensive type college coach or NFL assistant coach were to take the OC job, it's much more likely that they would do it with with a team that has a defensive type Head Coach. No in demand offensive coach wants to work for Garrett who the OC himself just a few years ago.

With Garrett remaining as HC, Kellen Moore could be a very good choice.

I've watched some of the Boise State games with Moore as the QB. They had many similarities to the 2018 Rams offense. Extensive pre-snap motion, unusual formations, innovative gimmick type plays, etc.. Also one of Moore's top skills was "throwing receivers open" which has been a criticism of Dak and the Linehan offense.

Recap of practical options for OC:
1. Fire Garrett and lure a top in-demand offensive mind by hiring him as the Head Coach.
2. Keep Garrett as HC and hire another retread OC.
3. Keep Garrett and hire someone with limited experience like Kellen Moore.

Obviously there is no guarantee of success with Moore as OC; however, if Moore fails then Garrett fails and Garrett is now in the last year of his contract.

LOL that anyone thinks Moore is changing anything about Garrett’s offense.

well hers another this forum seem to think its Jerry and the puppet meddling trickling down to hire a OC with linited experience..

ODD we all know Mcvays limited experience, well chew on this,

today Flores was LB coach now jumps to HC for the Mimai Dolphins which also comes into play when they say Jerry fire your coach hes been here too long , Miami has now had 10 new HCs in the last 15years, how has that helped Miami?

second hire today brings back Mcvay brand new young limited experience young HC now loses his QB coach, right not as a OC but as brand new Hire for Cinci as phackin HC, chew on it, a very young inexperienced QB coach jumping to HC..

so this is Jerry all jerry and hes the pony one who does crazy thing.. those GMs btw are the ones hiring 10 coaches in 15 years or keeping one too long and both hiring postion coached as their next HC..

its shows theres no real right way..other then NE nothing tried and thrue that you want to map out and say thats the way..

so if KM is horrible choice because he lacks experience to jump from QB coach to OC, how are those hires look?

We've seen a great coach can turn around a talented team (Rams) very quickly. If Garrett is unable to lead this team to the NFC Championship game with a rookie OC, then changes are sure to come. Questions is, can Jerry hire a great coach.

Because with Garrett here he will not allow real change to the offense.

Jerry tried to sell everyone how the offense would be different this year and I think we were even more archaic this year than any other year and lining up Cole Beasley out wide was not the change this offense needed.

IT's the long list of tendencies that the offense has and never breaks away from.

Lets say Kellen Moore is unbelievable Year 1.

Then while teams are spending the entire offseason trying to figure out how to stop us what is Dallas doing? They will be ready to do the same thing they did in year 1 in YEAR 2. They will play into all of their tendencies.

Then they will chalk it up as unlucky and do the same thing in Year 3 because it worked in Year 1.

They do not get out in front of things and if something worked like it did in 2016 then we have to suffer through 2 years after before we finally get change when they should've been ahead of it from the get go with counters to our tendencies.

Unusual formations, lots of pre-snap activity and JG clapping . . . what could possibly go wrong, mates?

2019 is a big chemistry experiment to see what Moore can do as OC.

Rather than taking the bull by the horns and figuring out a way to get Riley or Payton, Jerry is keeping his adopted son and hoping that Moore is the answer to this stale and antiquated offense.

Maybe he is or maybe he isn't. I disagree with this approach, but it's done now. The only good thing is that Garrett is not getting his extension. So if things fall off the rails, Jerry will have no choice but to make Garrett walk the plank and it won't cost him anything. Too bad we have to wait yet another year.

valid points...

But are you good with it cause you know that with JJ in change that's really all you get?

Dallas "good years" are the result of lightning in a bottle not good planing or scheming to fit existing talent.

Rams lost a great receiver this year and were never able to fully recover.

It cost them a Super Bowl.

That's NOT the kind of "boy genius" results I want in Dallas.

But keep buying the tickets and merchandise (that keeps Jerry winning at the game he's good at).

Like I said, I would prefer a new HC which is the best way to get a top offensive mind.

I'm am relieved that Garrett didn't get a contract extension.

It’s kind of a win/win
If it works we win
If it don’t then JG is gone so we win, and we can argue over Sean Payton being the answer all next off season lol

If he can install some new plays I’m happy, doubt he will get to change much

Yes, we are resigned to think let Garrett and company have their OC Moore and then Garrett either produces with that decision or he is gone.

This time if he fails I do think he is a goner unlike this past season.

I feel better about Moore as OC than I ever did about Garrett as OC.

List of accomplishments as college QBs:

Garrett:
  • Transferred from Princeton to Columbia because his Dad was named the Head Coach of Columbia.
  • Transferred back to Princeton after his Dad coached Columbia to an 0-10 record and was fired.

Kellen Moore

Let's not forget that the Rams were loaded with early round picks for multiple years that McVay inherited.

By the end of 2019, the most popular Cowboys meme will be Garrett's picture captioned "Less is More" next to Moore's picture captioned "Moore is Less"
