Actually, the tag for a running back is less than what we paid to franchise Schultz. If we designated Elliott a June 1 cut, it would be a little less than the money we'd clear against the cap. So it would really depend on whether we want to keep Pollard more than we want to keep Elliott. Frankly, it's what I'd do if I couldn't work out a long-term deal with Pollard. Elliott could bounce back and have a good, healthy year, but he's got a lot of wear and tear, which makes it likely for injuries like last year's to happen or even for him to hit the wall. A lot may depend if he plays more like the Elliott of the first half of the season or the injured Elliott of the second half.

The Cowboys like Dowdle better then most fans. Keep in eye on him this season. Pollard and Zeke will probably be gone after next season.

We have limited view of Dowdle’s game, but so far, from what I have seen I have been very underwhelmed.

I'm not sure we view Nall as a fullback option, but more of a third back/special-teamer. If you look at his film, despite his size, there's no indication he can be a fullback. He played more in single-back sets for Chicago. Maybe McCarthy believes he can turn him into a West Coast-style fullback, but that's not what he has been.

The Chargers have quietly kept the same GM in power for a decade, and he's actually pretty good. It's never borne fruit into a deep playoff run, because the Chargers are the Chargers and that franchise is cursed. But the cupboard is always kept pretty full.

Yeah I agree. Dowdle had a good kick return vs Pittsburgh in 2020. On Hard Knocks the coaches seemed to like him as they were disappointed he had that season ending injury. Dowdle will get some run behind this new offensive line this preseason though.

They had a running back in preseason last season named Knox who would get chunks in preseason then he was one of the last cuts. Not sure he’s signed with anyone else but the Giants had cut Davontae Booker who seemed to reel off yards by the bushel against Dallas while Barkley nursed injuries.

With the Nall signing like was mentioned he’s probably got the lead going into preseason if a need came up to get carries during a regular season game simply based on him making game day roster as a ST .

I think at 24 the Pokes would have thought long and hard about Johnson over Smith had he been available .

I think they wanted a bigger, stronger player at the position. If Green were available, they might have thought long and hard about him over Smith.

It is amazing how a franchise quarterback and left tackle just fell to the Chargers in the draft. I am not going to give them credit for that. Zion is not a lock to be anything but average. Most had him as a second round grade. They could have used a linebacker or cornerback.

i haven't looked at their current FA moves in the offseason, but they were one of the worst run defenses in the NFL last year.
and i didn't see anything in their draft that suggest that was drastically addressed.

But adding more protection wall for their franchise QB, is what we've been trying to do with our own QB (ala Williams, McGovern, Tyler) but we haven't
had as much success.

It's been reported that they were worried about Green's knee, it's degenerative.

If you take what the Jones’ are saying at face value, it makes sense (even if you don’t agree with it) on a certain level. They valued Smith’s position flex OG/T more than Johnson and Green’s playing solely inside. I think they believe Smith gave them value as a potential future replacement for Tyron at #24.

I'm not impressed w/ Zion. Has all the traits to be switched to OG, IMO.

Back to back drafts they take Rashawn Slater number one now Zion Johnson . Building that firewall around Herbert . Good thinking get a dominating OLine to motor that offense.

they will take a back next year. No sense in letting him rot in the bench for a year.

Their Christmas gift list should include the Miami Dolphins each year for the next, oh, maybe 10. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving.
P.S. If Miami executives had just stayed out of Brian Flores' way and let him shop for his own groceries, the Dolphins wouldn't be in the sad predicament they are in.
I don't know if Tyrek Hill and Jalen Waddle will save that franchise, and I had high hopes for Tua. But I fear he's too fragile for the NFL.
