How is the vert or press done differently? They allow springs in their sneakers and take weight off the bar?
In regard to the bench press, different track I can understand with running but a jump is a jump and lifting 250 lbs is lifting 250 lbs.
Common sense tells you that people have bad days and performance can vary. Maybe he was dehydrated, sick, low blood sugar, or something else.
At the Combine during the broad jump you're required to effectively "stick the landing," if you rock back and take a step back it's not counted. I've been told at some schools they'll allow for it if you fall down which means you don't have to worry about maintaining balance and can really extend your legs.
In regard to the bench press, training staffs at different schools will count bench press reps differently; locked-out elbows vs. 3/4 extension.
Common sense will tell you nobody does worse at their pro day than at the Combine. Go ahead, name two or three players that you have heard bombed their Pro Day in contrast to their respective Combine numbers.
Now list all the players who annually and miraculously improve their workout numbers at their pro day. Meh, I guess they all didn't eat a snickers before the Combine.
Every year prior to the post season all star games (Senior Bowl, East/West Shrine, etc.) and the Combine it's an ongoing joke to see the official heights and weights of the players compared to their listed college numbers. Suddenly 6'2" Joe Blow is actually 5'11". Most realize the college programs ***** the numbers but apparently some are too naive to understand. It's not a stretch to believe the schools are going to put their alums in the best light.
