Thought Tapper was a great pick.

Ourlads had him as a 2nd/3rd rounder.

Still don't really understand totally the back issue and if anything can be done about it.

Every time I see "Tapper" I think of the Airplane movie.

"Striker, Striker, Striker"

"Tapper, Tapper, Tapper"

I got excited when they mentioned Charles Tapper smoking Randy Gregory and Jaylon Smith in a foot race a few weeks ago.

Yep, on IR. It's going to come down to Collins and Tapper. Collins is a starting quality OL that would be a major insurance policy for an injury along the OL. Tapper is a question mark.

La'el Collins is 4 weeks removed from surgery on the ligament in his big toe.

It's the same injury Sean Lee had and the team didn't keep him on the active roster hoping for a quick turnaround back then. And LC is a much bigger athlete than Lee, we're talking about 85 pounds or more in weight difference.

I doubt Collins will get cleared in time to help this season.

Charles Tapper might be the only choice for recall.

I have to agree with this logic. Collins IS a big man and you don't mess with ligaments in big toes. Very tricky frankly. I remember Deion's issues with this...seems to me it might have shortened his career some. Backs are tricky too but Tapper has been out a long time and reports have been encouraging lately. We need another good, healthy body for Rod's Dline rotation moving forward.

Yep, on IR. You have him, Lael Collins, Kellen Moore and Geoff Swaim. It's going to come down to Collins and Tapper. Collins is a starting quality OL that would be a major insurance policy for an injury along the OL. Tapper is a question mark. Even though we have a need for a pass rusher, do we know enough about Tapper and what he can bring to take him over Collins? And how far away is each, that is a key too.
Collins is guy you know what you get. Tapper we have no clue about. All things being equal I take Collins but as you said, it's about who is gonna be ready in time to get back

If we remain healthy on the o-line, Collins will have little to no impact. However, if Leary or Martin were to go down and we activate Tapper, who will likely do nothing, we'd all be pissed...

I hope so. We need help.

IIRC Tapper missed a good portion of training camp. Between that and not being in football shape I'm not sure how much help he would bring us this year... though it would definitely help in his eventual development to get him some playing time this year.

He can't be any worse than the guys we're playing.

Mickey says (around the 50:00 mark on my podcast) they brought up Tapper after Garrett's press conference, and Tapper is "getting close but not quite ready to play." He said they would have to activate him, and then give him a few weeks of practice to get in football shape.

Thanks for sharing the news on Tap.

On a down note, while discussing the lack of attention given to the pass rush last off-season, Mickey Spagnola shook his head and mentioned watching Randy Gregory doing drills out of the practice field. Suspended players are allowed at facilities for meetings and weight lifting, they just can't practice with the team.

Mick said he watched Gregory doing a drill and lamented the wasted talent.

While I haven't given up hope we may get Randy back on the field at some point in the future, the only course of action the team can take is to operate as if he isn't on the roster when they begin making decisions in the off-season.

Gregory is currently serving a 14 game suspension that will end December 19th.

That's when we'll officially hear if a one year suspension for another failed test is implemented.
