Statement by the Family of Charlton Heston
Saturday April 5, 11:24 pm ET

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 5, 2008 /PRNewswire/ --
Legendary actor, civil rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away today, at the age of 84. He died at his home with Lydia, his wife of 64 years, at his side. Mr. Heston was loved by his two children, Fraser Clarke Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and his three grandchildren, Jack Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell.

The Heston family issued the following statement:

"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.

We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved.

No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people."

A private memorial service will be held. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund:

I really liked Heston and appreciate the work he did for gun owner rights and other good political causes... that said, this was going to be posted sooner or later, so why not sooner.:

Actually I'm a supporter of the NRA. Sad to see him go.

Ah damn. An icon in more ways than one. I used to see the bumper stickers now and then, "Charlton Heston is my President." He was a classic, as an activist and as an actor. That chariot race in Ben Hur is still one of my favorite scenes ever.

64 years married. That is impressive to me.

64 years married to the same woman. That is about as remarkable as it gets.

He was my favorite actor after John Wayne. He did a lot of movies that did not get a lot of attention later in his career that were very good.

But when you have three films in 4 years (I think) Like Greatest Show on Earth, Ten Commandments and Ben Hur= how do you possibly match that ever again?

Awesome actor in many classic films.

But for some reason one of the first things that come to mind with Heston is his cameo appearance in Wayne's World 2.

:laugh2:

What an icon.

My favorite Charlton Heston movie was Midway. My dad loves that movie and so that drew me to it.

I also liked his cameo in Tombstone.

A very underrated Western that Heston was in, was Will Penny.

What a loss. These guys like John Wayne, Glenn Ford, Jimmy Stewart and Charlton Heston are not replaceable.

Charlton Heston played a part in a scary and confused part of my youth.

My uncle had taken my siblings and myself to the original theatrical showing of Planet of the Apes. It may have very well been the first movie I had ever seen in a theater. Fun was had by all, that is, until...

Where we lived we could only get 2 channels on our TV. The remote control for my Dad was, well, us kids. Back and forth, chanel 3, channel 5..3...5....3....5.:banghead: Naturally, we watched what Dad watched.

Other than the Viet Nam war that dominated the nightly news, I can remember of the trouble also being experienced in Ireland. And then I heard it...I was shocked...amazed...astonished even, that there was gorilla warfare happening.

How could this be? It was just a movie, or at least I thought, and now the gorilla army was clashing with the government in Ireland!

"Where's Ireland?" I asked my Dad..."Can the gorilla army come here?"

"No, we don't have to worry about that here."

Trouble was, my Dad hadn't seen The Planet of the Apes...he didn't know what happened to Charlton Heston like I did.

OK. This is too weird.

Yesterday my daughter came to me and want to put in the Ten Commandments. We watched all 3 hours and 29 minutes of it together. Then I find out today that He died.

Well, God bless you Chuck!

Thanks for everything you did.

You will be missed.

Catch you on the flip side!
