i was rewatching the game this morning since I do not have to work today and was watching all of charltons snaps. the guy gets no push whatsoever. I just wonder what was the scouting department thinking when they drafted him. Armstrong needs to be active in playoffs instead of Charlton. the guy cannot stop the run or even get close to qb. I guess you cannot hit every first round pick.

Yes he is. Hopefully he makes a major turnaround. Could've for sure got a player that could be contributing more. Ol, te, wr, lb, de, dt, safety, waterboy something anything

I didn’t rewatch the game, admittedly.

But he’s had worse games. He had 5 tackles and a TFL yesterday. I saw him pop out a couple times.

Surely a disappointment though...odd game to call him out though.
I was not trying to call him out for this game just my observation of how much of a total disappointment he has been his first two years.

I thought he played pretty well against the run, getting in or initiating several stops. He hasn't found it as a pass rusher. I'm still hoping that it clicks for him. Some players take longer to hit their stride at this level.

Fortunately, Randy Gregory's play has made Charlton's slow development less significant than it could be.

It's a good thing Dallas didn't waste a draft pick on under-sized TJ Watt.. talk about a BUST! Right? right? hello? this thing on?

thus far, that was a big wiff by Jones for sure. I recall one knock on him was that he was a "one year wonder" that lacked burst and the strength to get by better guards.

Randy Gregory worked his butt off & made that starting DE spot his. Charlton seems to be pouting. Jones is super patient w/ guys, but Charlton gonna have to step up

I will give the OP +1 for rubbing salt in the wound making another thread on this topic. You can never have enough bash Taco threads.

That's what happens when you force a pick like we did in that particular draft. All of the other top draft picks that we have hit on we took the BPA rather than reached for need. This was a classic need pick. We took a 3rd or 4th round pick in Taco (developmental player) in the first round. His speed numbers are pedestrian for a top DE pick.

He still has time to become a player but he was significantly over drafted.

Can we ever give anyone time to develop before we label a player a bust?

Lawrence looked bad the first couple of years. He was injured and not too productive. Byron Jones was also getting the “bust “ label before this year.

Patience is something fans don’t have. Now, he really needs to show strides in his third year. That was always Landry’s philosophy.

Exactly.
He made key tackles that forced punts and was generally very solid.
Weird game to call him out unless you just have an agenda,

The guy was an attitude scratch the two previous weeks so he's obviously a concern.
But he's STILL on pace with Randy Gregory right now.
And he is a beast in the run game.

Taco pushed inside some on rush plays.

He is a totally different player than Watt and people comparing the two are showing an ignorance that borders on criminal at this point.
But I guess with LVE playing so well this is all they have to talk about.

Taco is better on the left side. Tank is there. They didn't draft a 1st rounder to back up Tank though. Plus I hear Taco is a bit spoiled and Marinelli wants to see him hustle like the other guys before he gets more rep's. I disagree on his play against the run. I find us better on that side when he is in there but he doesn't rush the passer like Gregory. I think on the left side he would be more effective rushing.

Oh and in case everyone forgot Randy Gregory is playing on the right side. I know we drafted him in the 2nd but he was considered the best pass rusher in that draft and a top 5 talent. You're seeing it in his play now. He's causing more pressure than even Tank right now and he's getting doubled too.

Lawrence was on his contract year when we drafted Taco and many didn’t foresee him returning.

Then he transformed into arguably the best player on our defense.

So you want TJ Watt at DE’s?
Or are we converting to a 3-4 now?
Or are you taking Watt over Jaylon or LVE?

WTH.
TJ at combine
6'4"
252 pounds
33"1/3 arms
4.69 40
6.79 3 cone

LVE
6'4"
256
33"7/8 arms
4.65 40
6.88 3 cone

basically the same guy.
OLB in this scheme.
Both had 1 year of actual high level D1 football performance too.

He had 5 tackles and a few pressures yesterday. I'm not sure what game you were watching. Everyone so quick to give up on someone like Charlton, forgets that Lawrence finally came to light in the Divisional Round vs Detroit at the end of his 2nd season.

Quinn was a zero for the Rams until he broke out in his 4th season I believe.

The 4-3 DE position in the NFL takes adjustment for most unless you are incredibly gifted. The usual 1st year pass rush breakout players are indeed 3-4 OLB's (Watt, Landry, Chubb, etc.) vs true DE's.

a) scheme is huge
b) pr abilities in the 3-4 sometimes mask run-game and coverage deficiencies by the same player.

DeMarcus Ware was unique because his abilities allowed him to be either or right out of the gate. I remember injuries forcing Parcells to use a 4-3 alignment vs Detroit and he still had 2.5 or 3 sacks and mulitple more QB hits. We lost that game btw to Kitna. It was the year of the snap fiasco vs Seattle in the playoffs.

I've read they were looking at his potential. They saw his size and arm length.......speed. What they don't have is a measure for grit and heart. Taco lacks both and will never develop to his potential b/c he's got no real motivation or determination.

So he would start over Jaylon? Jaylon can be just as good a pass rusher if he was asked to do it more.

I get what you’re saying but you basically just confirmed he wasn’t a good fit here. Not that Taco has been either since Lawrence’s presence assures he won’t play in his best spot often.
