Actually I think that 17 mil/year would be pretty good for both parties.

I don't know why people would be shocked that Tony gets $100 mil. He's going to get it somewhere.

I'd be shocked. There is no way, IMO, that Romo signs 6 year, 102 million 40 guaranteed deal.

1. I don't think he's got 17 Million as a number. I think it's closer to 19.

2. If he just plays out the year this year, he gets 17 guaranteed and then can sign elsewhere. Why would he settle for 40? Essentially, that's really 23 guaranteed, minus the 17 he's already got in his pocket. That's stupid. That's a two year deal basically. No way is he that stupid.

3. I think Tony would rather see a shorter deal with more guaranteed money. That allows him to be sure he is in one spot rather then moving around after a couple of seasons. Romo now has a child. I would guess that by the time that child goes to school, Romo would probably want to be free of any deal so that he can either relocate or retire. That's just a guess but I think it fits.

The 17M (16.8M) number is the salary cap hit for 2013. The amount that Romo is getting is 11.5M.

His base is 11.5 but his number is 16.8 this season. Any way you slice it, he's making 17M this year.

He is not making 17M this year, he is making 11.5. The difference between the two, which accounts for his higher cap number, is the prorated amount of the signing bonus he received when he signed his current contract.

I would be fine with him getting it "Somewhere", just not here.

I'll top that with a "anywhere but here".:laugh1:

No, he is not. The difference 5.3M (16.8M - 11.5M) is from money that he was paid in previous years.

not so. he has already got the differense. all he will get this year is the 11.5
the other 5.3 he already has and keeps it whether he signs, is cut or anything else.

Where you are confused is that when you make a player a June 1 designation you don't get the cap relief until June 2. See Marcus Spears and his 1.7 million cap relief.
And we never sign our draft picks until right before training camp.

Fine, even if he received the money as a prorated signing bonuse, his number this year is still 16.8. Any way you slice it, that's the number Romo is accounted for this year.
