Why is there dead money for Singleton? He played out his 4 year contract but we chose not to re-sign him. Also Hannam earned minimum wage but Cowboys chose to include $3M incentives if he did certain things but that was all effort to move about $3M into the 08 cap.

No one COULDVE known it would be a liability in the passing game back then, he was playing good when he got that.

He made that much in 2007 because he just signed a contract extension in August 2006, and that number includes the entire (not pro-rated) signing bonus from that deal.

Same reason they list Richard Seymour at $24 million, Drew Brees at $22 million, Bryant McKinnie at $17.5 million, Jeff Backus at $16.25 million, John Abraham at $15.5 million, Edgerrin James at $15.75 million, David Carr at $13 million, etc -- all drastically more than Roy made. Each of those players, and Roy, too, will have drastically lower numbers on the same chart in 2008 because their signing bonuses will no longer be factored in.

The number that matters is that he only counted about $3.55 million against the cap in 2007, ranking 5th on the team behind Owens, Adams, Henry, and Davis.

It doesn't even make sense that they included that because he wasn't paid the signing bonus in '07 and even if it was included the $11.6 million number would be wrong.

I can't tell what the formula/criterion is either, but signing bonuses from new contracts at least gets each of the players I listed "in the same neighborhood" as the numbers Fox has for their 2007 salaries.

Without quibbling over the specific numbers, the more important point, to me, is that since signing bonuses get paid upfront, we shouldn't be surprised in the least to see that a player received a "lot" (though not nearly as much as any of the other players I listed) of money the year after he signed a new contract extension. And since the bonus is prorated over the length of the contract for cap purposes, we shouldn't be disgusted, either.

A true team player would recognize his lack of production and take a cut so guys can be added to compensate for his lack of ability. Not Roy, selfish, overweight, premadonna.

And the last NFL player to do this was . . . never?????

Some people are reaching pretty deep into their RW paranoia box.

Name two Dallas Cowboy's starters that performed worst than Roy Williams last year. No excuse for him making that kind of money.
