I'll say this being tied into the development world.

Money can be lost quickly with bad investments and some developers only want to play with other peoples/bank money. Multiple businesses behind LLCs to prevent their personal finances being affected.
Some get themselves stretched out too thin. Had a few projects die after the cash dries up and contractors, engineers, architects stop getting paid.


Maybe he does have 2.5mil, but I guarantee you no one wants to give that up that quickly.
