Why is everyone so eager to replace Ratliff? he's our best defensive player why would we downgrade?
You can never have to many good lineman. Either side. It's not about replacing Rat it's about upgrading the overall group. For the right price I might take a shot at Dorsey. He was a beast at LSU.

we want to trade him for Coakley

Damnnit, I came here to post this and you beat me to it.

The Falcons were real high on Dorsey. If it werent for that 22 million in guaranteed money, there might be a match there.

I would take him if he could be had for a 5th round pick. He hasn't proven anything more than that (Well he hasn't even really proven to be worth a 5th rounder either, but a 5th overall pick still has lingering value). Even then, he would need a contract re-negotiation.

Glenn Dorsey-DL- Chiefs Oct. 14 - 10:37 am et

The Chiefs are down on DL Glenn Dorsey and may be willing to trade him, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.

La Canfora says the new coaching staff doesn't like Dorsey, the No. 5 pick in the 2008 draft. Like many other Chiefs, Dorsey landed in coach Todd Haley's doghouse when he showed up to camp out of shape and flunked a conditioning test. Dorsey has been coming around lately and giving up on him just 21 games into his career would be a very surprising move as the trade deadline approaches. He'd also be impossible to trade with a contract including $22.5 million guaranteed.

This is odd since I just listened to Todd Haley sing some praises on the improvment Dorsey has made.

With everyone in the league going to the 3-4 and the Tampa 2 going out of style, the 4-3 players are getting greatly undervalued around the league (while the 3-4 players are getting greatly overvalued). If I'm a new head coach taking a gig I'm immediately taking advantage of this by bringing in a great 4-3 defensive coordinator and taking advantage of all these firesales of Glenn Dorseys and Derrick Johnsons around the NFL while everyone is looking for 2 gappers and big linebackers. That's how Polian and the Colts have been restocking their D with the league's scraps the past 5 years.

And if John Fox, Jeff Fisher and Jack Del Rio are fired in the offseason, I would be awfully tempted to hire one of them as a DC (although I assume Fisher will have his choice of HC jobs) and move to a 4-3 if we hire an offensive minded head coach. I assume Spears is going to get paid elsewhere by one of these 3-4 teams and that's one more player 3-4 player we'll have to replace. Spears may not be a difference maker, but those 2 gapper strong side 3-4 DEs are not easy to find in the current NFL climate. That's how Tye Jackson gets drafted with the 3rd pick. If the name of the game is putting your best players in position to succeed, I personally think a penetrating 4-3 system suits Ware and Ratliff extremely well.

there is a coach in New England who is a season ahead of everyone and has already started this process and that is why all his 3-4 players are being shipped off. I am interested to see what happens to wilfork and warren in the next year. Warren is gurode's cousin, he could be a potential replacement at some point for spears.

But it is very interesting that new england has already started this.

oh and amen on the death of the cover 2.

There's also a huge crop of UFA 4-3 linebackers in free agency this offseason too. If you're going to transition to the 4-3, this is the offseason to do it.

Something else is there. This guy has unbelievable talent. Something else is going on there. He could easily play DE in a 34 as well. Wow! This is a shocker to me.

Dorsey already IS playing 3-4 DE. He is also playing 3 tech DT for the Chiefs. The Chiefs play a hybrid 3-4/4-3 under Pendergast.
