While at the pharmacy this morning I noticed a fire truck and the firemen trying to get into a car without breaking the window. The lady of the car accidentally locked her keys in the car with her child in the back. Today is a very humid day (a heat warning is in effect). Fortunately they got the child out (had to smash the window), it appears Mother and Child were going to be fine.

The fire department tried unsuccessfully for several minutes trying to jimmy the lock open. I was confused at why someone did not call a tow service and tell them this is an absolute emergency. I'm pretty sure they could have got in quickly...

At least there is happy ending, mistakes happen, the mother must have been terrified.

Man, windows can be replaced. You simply cannot wait for a tow truck.

Someone said the child was in the car for 10 minutes ... the window didn't break easily because they were worried about flying glass and the child ...

Another person said the preferred method is jimmying the lock...because glass becomes a concern...

Today's cars are equipped w/ the glass that crumbles, so there would be no flying glass shards, just crumbles.
Was the car running? If so, they could've waited for an emergency locksmith.

Still, it doesn't cost but a few hundred to replace a window on a car. Often cheaper than tow trucks. If it were my child, and the car wasn't running, which would've provided cool fresh air, I'd have broken the window myself.

No it was not running. I assume the firefighters were just being cautious. Most important thing, the child appeared fine.
