Getty ImagesWe’ve been pointing out all season that the Eagles’ ground game runs more effectively when someone other than DeMarco Murray is getting the ball, and on Sunday Chip Kelly finally figured that out.
Murray, the running back who got a five-year, $40 million contract this offseason, was on the field for a season-low 14 offensive snaps on Sunday. Murray finished the game third on the Eagles in rushing, with just 24 yards. Darren Sproles led the team with 66 yards, while Kenjon Barner had 39 yards.
Considering that the Eagles had their best win of the season while Murray spent most of the game on the bench, it’s hard to imagine this was just a one-time thing. And when Ryan Mathews returns from a concussion, Murray should get even less playing time.
Overall this season, Murray has 163 carries for 569 yards, a 3.5-yard average, and four rushing touchdowns. Mathews, Sproles and Barner have combined for 160 carries for 767 yards, a 4.8-yard average, and six rushing touchdowns. Murray just isn’t getting the job done. After Sunday’s game, Murray seemed resigned to the fact that he’s been buried on the depth chart.

If I were Lurie I would fire Chip for this contract alone! When you have a coach like him that can bolt at any time I would never give him control because he can spend your money and then just bolt leaving your franchise crippled.

I would also question his scouting eye as he should have known Demarco didn't fit!

If they didn't jump in, he would've likely resigned with us.

I presently live near the Philly area and many here believe that they signed him to keep him away from Dallas. I usually don't believe stuff like that but they did have the money to blow and the perfect bargaining chip in Bradford.

Their offense had little to do with the win.

This "win" was typical of their 9 wins last year. ST and D touchdowns once again saved the anemic Chip Kelly offense.

Oh well, all is right in Philadelphia again, and Chip is once again a genius and they are winning the Super Bowl.

Of course, until they lay an egg again next week.

Chip only offered/gave this contract to Demarco to pull one over on our Cowboys. Plain & simple... I guess he is just starting to realize that he is a failure as a GM and a mediocre NFL HC at best.

1. Demarco would be clicking on all cylinders if he was still in our system. Call him a system guy. Whatever makes you sleep better at night.

2. Chip is beginning to understand why you don't sign guys just to keep them from rivals. Those square pegs actually have to fit in those round holes.

Wrong, Chip is still the smartest guy in the room.

According to Chip.

Surprisingly a lot of fans and radio hosts aren't buying in. Most think the win was a total fluke and if they beat Buffalo and Arizona, then they can squawk.

I don't think Chip signed him just to take him from the Cowboys. I think he signed because like always, Chip believes his system can work with anyone and Murray was the best back in football last year.

Demarco would've been among league leaders in rushing even if he had went to Oakland or Jacksonville. They run regular offenses, not that trash in Philadelphia.

His free agent moves and draft picks have not been good and it is the biggest reason why I think in the long term he will not bring a championship to Philly. Although if he gets a top 10 QB, a lot of other moves tend to look better. Lets remember he has won 10 games each of his first two years and may win the division again this year (2 in three years). That is still pretty good considering the slop he has had at QB (guys he has chosen). While us Cowboys fans will have one division champ in three years with one of the better qbs in the league (although one who was injured all year).

I am much more worried about our glass house than making fun of a team ahead of us.

LOL.

Exactly. A blocked punt, a punt return and freak 99 yard interception return was why they won. Other than that, they amassed around 230 yards of offense and didn't show much explosiveness on offense at all.

Who cares his they won? Murray wanted money and a Lombardi. He thought it was all there in Philthy. Now his career looks like a dumpster fire. I love it. He deserves to rot in Philthy green.

Relax dude. It was a response to the article that seemed to insinuate the offense looked better without Murray getting a lot of carries. The offense really didnt.

^This.

The Raiders and Jaguars were rumored as suitors for Murray's services before free agency began. It would not have surprised me if either team had signed Murray the day free agency began--instead of several days into the free agency period when Philadelphia actually signed him. In my opinion, Kelly wasn't the only one of the two who wanted Murray to remain in the division. I believe Murray wanted to stay as well as a constant reminder to Dallas. Things haven't worked out exactly as Murray hoped though. Thank goodness the money was good. Not good enough but still good.

I just never understood that signing by the Eagles, Murray just didn't fit Chips offensive scheme
