It's like the ole golf saying, drive for show, putt for dough. That's the Jim Kelly offense. It can put up big offensive numbers but it usually ends up petering out. At least how he runs it. The problem with it is that the defense also has to be in a hurry up mode. Instead of worrying about scheme, technique, assignments, the players end up having to play instinctively because of the pace. The defense usually ends up getting in a rhythm and eventually stopping the offense.

The spread is the future of the game, it has taken over college and will incrementally take over the next level too, Chip Kelly is only the beginning.

On a side note, I adore Jim Kelly as a human being, I am reminded of his fragile condition by your typo, and ask everyone pray for him and his family.

The Erhardt-Perkins system is one thing Kelley uses and what we use makes it such that you can call complex plays using simple terminology. Each side of a formation will have 1-4 receiving options go into routes. So each one of the route combinations that you can conceive gets a name. playcalls become saying the formation and then the route combination for each side of the field.

That allows them to run dozens of route combinations on either side of any number of formations that you want.

Garrett said the team was going to use EP in the winter and Linehan is using it. I don't know if he used it before coming here.

But anyway my point is that you can run a very complex offense in a hurry up doing this so it would be difficult for a defense to key in and get a rhythm in the face of it.

At the college level obviously Kelly's influence remains at Oregon with the style, and Art Briles at Baylor doesn't even use a playbook but calls in plays based on interchangeable audibles every down.

Chip Kelly's offense played an arguable super bowl contender to within a TD. last night. Had it not been for all the turnovers by the offense they may have won. I don't think I would be too critical of their offense just yet. Bad karma. WE have to play them twice.

You mean, Fuzzy, we don't have to film opponent's practices illegally? :)

That gimmick offense didnt look impressive in either match against an all time terrible defense last year, probably the last team I am worried about

Goodie...I like plucking a plump Eagle and then making Eagle stew.

It's one thing to be a homer, we're all guilty of that from time to time, but really? Let's say Kelley came here and finished the season as strong as he did in Philly, and in the meantime, Garrett was in Philly coming off two 8-8 seasons with a 34 year old QB who may be starting the season in a Hoveround; and a defense who, at least on paper, looks like it could be worse?. What would be the prognosis of both teams then? Seriously:confused:

A Chip Kelly offense will always score a ton of points, however, Nick Foles is a poser. Just go back to last year and watch him closely when the pocket starts to breakdown.

Unfortunately for us that is the one thing we can't seem to do - break down the pocket...

1) when I saw "Jim" Kelly I first thought, "is that chip's real first name?"

2) I think now that teams have seen his offense for a year, it may not be as dynamic the second time around...and, as much as I dislike the little punk Jackson, I respect his game...he stretched that field and opened up their offense more than people want to say...they don't have that weapon this year....

3) is this thread in the wrong location?

This is the actual turn-around-point where the younger fans and many long suffering fans would just state:

'Beep, beep, my arse...I want some meat!'

Then to Jerry: Alright, with your money, you can call in Chef Robert

and with Mission Impossible, cook up a feast that would appease the most troubled fan...but all the high fallutin' solutions and theories need to actually work. And this season is where the shallow interests hit impatience. Some have just become weary of the frustrations in trusting in not getting the job done.

A soldier just keeps measuring on...

This.

Their gimmick offense will be less effective this year, especially with no Jackson and the inevitable reality that Nick Foles will come back down to earth. Their defense isn't anything special either.

I'm not buying into the Eagles hype at all. Not scared.

Don't ever discount an enemy, even if he is simple and presents a basic level of consideration. That tendency will end up getting one beat.
