No, we were discussing Owens as a human being, and your quote was "There's more than enough reason for someone to be concerned .." (about TO)

What reason ?

Has he done anything in Dallas to warrant "concern for him as a human being?" Maybe not. But regardless of media sensationalism & hype TO is IMO a very volatile man.

I don't care if your QB disrespected you, or ownership, or whatever happened to set him off. His response was at times over the top IMO.

Football aside, volatile people can get themselves and/or others in lots of trouble over situations that do not warrant extreme reactions.

As a result, I share some of Berman's concern for TO as a human being. I personally am not believing last weeks events were necessarily more of that volatility and therefore I think Berman's comments are ill-timed, but I don't think he's way out in left field either.

I think you have to be a pretty determined TO apologist (or Cowboy fan :)) to not have some concern about how he handles some life situations.

Just my opinion. :)

Berman is a Bills fan, who happened to jump on the 49'ers bandwagon, of course he never mention the attempts the cheat the Salary cap or Eddie D's fraud convictions.

That he is a human being is reason enough isn't it?

Or do I need a special reason that I'm unaware of?

I never met the school Principal in Wisconsin who was killed last week. Or his family for that matter. I still feel compassion for him and his family. Is there some unknown to me reason why I shouldn't?

Based on what the media has done to him since he came to Dallas, I have begun to respect him for the way he handles "some life situations".

On the other hand, based on what the media has said and printed about him, I too question the way he has handled certain life situations in the past.

But should we?

So now I am wondering if what the media said and printed about him while he was in Philly and SF is actually the way it happened.

I don't know, bu I like the kid.

Oh please, ... what has Owens done that would merit being worried about him as a human being?

You made it sound like he has done specific things that would make someone worry about his well being as a human being.

Again, what reason is there for that?

I could care less what anyone's reason for caring about something noble is. I'm just glad they care or express care.

Commanders fans expressed anger over Haynesworth's actions yesterday. I don't care what prompted it. Just glad they showed some human compassion and decency.

Here is the thing though.......it was NOT an innocent expression of concern. It was very obvious to me that he was trying to say something else, but I couldn't figure out exactly what he was getting at. In fact, I am still confused because this was not some off the cuff remark. He not only said it on Countdown, but also repeated it on NFL Blitz in the same peculiar manner.....

For those that didn't see it, I will try to go off memory:

Berman: "I just have to say that I am honestly concerned about T.O. as a human being........ ya know, I just don't know what is going to happen this week. Dallas......... Philly...... ya know? I am just very concerned for him as a human."

LOL, is this how you would express genuine concern for someone, or do you think Berman is trying to really say something else:?

Now, can someone explain what the hell that is supposed to mean?? I can only infer two possible meanings from this peculiar way to express concern (and he said the same damn thing twice on two different shows).

1. He was suggesting that this upcoming week would be too much for T.O.'s fragile psyche and Berman is sneakily predicting a suicide attempt....

OR

2. He thinks this week in Philly something will happen to T.O. .... perhaps from the fans??

Is he genuinely concerned? Possibly. Is he also trying to suggest something else? Definately

I would like to know what else you could possibly take from this?

Oh, sorry I misunderstood what you were asking.

His trainer said he had been depressed over the break up with his girlfriend and a confrontation with his son. Owens himself mentioned she hadn't checked to see if he was all right and that it "hurts."

Doctors and police can be wrong. People who attempt suicide do actually deny that's what they've done.

There's more than enough reason for someone to say they are concerned without their motives being evil.

i'm sure many legitimately "concerned" players, coaches, etc. reached out to TO last week. none of them blabbered about it on TV did they?

ESPN needs an all-new crew of producers, writers and hosts.

Wow!
Another "he hates the Cowboys" thread.

So Chris Berman has an opinion about TO and the Cowboys? Big deal.

In another news, dog bites man.

OK, ... I trust your motives, I believe you, ... I don't trust or believe Berman.

I still don't think his life is in danger. But if he attempts suicide 6 mos. or a year from now I will know I was wrong.

I could take exactly what I've already said, that there is more than enough reason for a skeptical person to be concerned and express it.

Perhaps I am looking too deep into this, but why did Berman relate that he was worried about T.O. THIS week over other weeks? He clearly related that this week is the one he is worried about T.O., and then goes on to just say the word "Philly" with no explaination.

So what does he think is going to occur to T.O. this week that has to do with Philly?? That is the part that is confusing the hell out of me.

Anyways........ who cares, right?

I didn't say I trust Berman, nor that I think TO's life is in danger. I said I'll take him (Berman) at his word. Just like I take the Commanders fans at their word that they were appalled at Haynesworth's actions.

Meaning, I'm not Carl Jung or Sigmund Freud. Therefore I'm not able to determine from a moment's time on a TV screen whether or not someone has deep rooted desires to subliminally put the idea out there, in TO, or someone else's mind to do him harm. I am not qualified to diagnose that.

When a man expresses concern, I'm grateful. There are so many any more who seem to cheer and preach for bad things to happen that once in a while it's nice just to hear that someone out there might possibly get it.

I will tell you this. I too am worried about TO this week and it has nothing whatsoever to do with the events of last week. It's called memories of Michael Irvin, Philly fans, and the fact that a D-cell can do some damage. If you think Philly fans wouldn't dare throw something at him then you're naive.

I believe I just answered this in my last post, but I will oblige again.

4 words ought to sum it up pretty good.

Philly fans

Revenge

Batteries

Maybe that's what Berman meant. Maybe he meant something else. You'd have to ask him, I'm not an animated grasshopper and he isn't made by Gepeddo.

When he said he was worried about TO as a human being, he also mumbled something about Dallas & TO this week.

I commented to my wife, "he doesn't have to worry about Owens, but the Philly fans are notorious for negative treatment to players and fans of opposing team."

I have already heard they are bringing pills and pill bottles to throw. And they will be shouting T.O.D. or T.O - O.D.

If I thought he was referring to the Philly fans, I wouldn't have had the reaction I did.

I think it was just his way to shed a negative light on Dallas & TO, .. by making it looked like he actually cared.

It looked phony.

I used to like Berman years ago, when his act was fresh. Now it is just the same 'ole same 'ole. I don't find him to be funny or witty anymore.

I guess it is nice that Berman expressed concern.

Seems to me, though, that it would be far classier for ESPN to issue a formal apology to Owens. I think they owe him one.

Everything a person says can look phony to someone on the outside looking in. That's why a wise author once wrote something about judging not...

I don't put it past anyone to be a phony. Especially someone like Berman who I think is a phony. Just not my job to find out when he's being genuine and when he isn't I guess. I see nothing wrong with what he said or how he said it. I didn't then, and I don't now.

Now if you're talking about how he says "the Raiduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhs"...

That I've got serious issues with. It was fresh and funny a couple of times. Now it's just annoying. Thankfully this year we've had very few Raiders highlights for me to have to switch the channels.
