HENRY FAILS A DRUG TEST

WKRC-TV in Cincinnati reports that Bengals receiver Chris Henry has failed a court-imposed drug test. Per the report, Kenton County (Kentucky) prosecutor Garry Edmondson says that the test was for opiates.

Unless Henry has been scarfing down poppy seed muffins, he's pretty much screwed.

The positive result means that Henry will be spending up to 88 days in jail on charges to which he pleaded guilty earlier in the year and spent two days behind bars. It also could give rise to legal issues in Florida, where Henry is on probation due to charges resulting from the incident we mentioned earlier in the day, when Henry was wearing his jersey while wielding a gun.

If (as we assume) Henry's past misconduct has landed him in the league's substance-abuse program, the positive test also could be deemed to be a violation of Henry's treatment program, which could result in (or push Henry closer to) a suspension.

Henry already has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 season for violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy.

You know I hate laughing at others misfortune, but at a certain point it starts getting comical how bone headed some people can be.

Talent going to waste is simply incomprehensible to me. How can you be at the pinnacle of dreams and piss it away so easily?

With all the rash of misconducts being reported, it reminds me of an unstoppable disease spreading at rapid pace.

All I could say is "WOW!".

opiates could be pain killers, not saying thats what happened here, but I figured pro athletes are on pain killers more than normal people. Could be no big deal, but I bet it won't be.

I remember there were a few people here that wanted us to sign him last year if he got released. All I can say thank you Geebus.

Have fun on your season off Chris.

How about the bengals man up and release all of the idiot players on their roster!!

Marvin Lewis is going to have a hard time getting another HC job if he has another 8-8 season, because he is going to be looked at as a coach who can't control his players... I am sure there are other teams with players who have bad raps but are able to limit the incidents like this.

Linebacker A.J. Nicholson was arrested on a domestic violence charge Friday, the first arrest of a Cincinnati Bengals player since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell cracked down on misconduct last month.

Nicholson already was one of nine Bengals players arrested during a nine-month span, turning the team into a prime example of player misconduct. The team had gone four months without having a player arrested.

You're probably right, but it would be wrong to hold Lewis accountable for his players off-the-field nonsense. These are grown men and they should be punished as such.

The failure of the Bengal organization to deal with all those off field problems they've had beginning in 06 is ridiculous. While I believe players are responsible for their own actions, when some of them repeatedly embarrass the team and the NFL w/o any punishment by the team, then the Commish must consider not only what punishment must be melded out to Henry but also what is going on within the Bengal organization. I sure hope the Commish has already been having discussions with them.

This is also why teams are looking closer at the caracter issue of players when drafting them. Dallas went through this crud in the late 90's and was a big reason we drafted a guy like Ellis over Moss. You can't say your trying to clean up your act then turn around and draft a player known for problems.

Point taken, but he was also the guy gunning for these players around draft time.... I remember last year he drafted a guy from UVA, another head case,in the compensatory draft, even after the Odell thurman and Chris Henry debacles.. I don't blame Marvin for trying to win, but I do think he should get a lump share of it for not knowing when enough is enough..

Henry is a disgusting person; how somebody comes to the conclusion in their minds that giving alcohol to young impressionable minors as he did is a good idea is beyond me.

Marv is a good coach who will get another job if he leaves Cincy. How is he not controlling the players? What the hell can he do during the off-season?

Marv has turned the Bengals into a team that actually can win games. He got there in 2003. They hadn't gone .500 since 1996. First season, 8-8. In 2005, he won 11 games with them. The last time they won over 10? 1988.

The Bengals are a joke now - but not because they are losers.

Like a previous poster pointed out, it could very well be a form a pain killers that caused him to fail the drug test, I'll reserve my comments until after the facts come out. BUT with that being said Chris Henry isn't a very believable or likable person right now...
