Christian Parker Isn't Meeting His Own Standard in Dallas

Pretty good story about what is going on with the D.

Christian Parker told us he would build the Dallas Cowboys’ defense around his players. After five games, opponents look more comfortable attacking it than the Cowboys look playing it.

Let’s go back to his introductory press conference, Parker said, “You build it around players.” He also said, “If we got good man-to-man corners, we’re going to play man.” He talked about finding favorable matchups, protecting weaknesses, and adjusting to what his personnel did well.

Christian Parker asked us to believe he would adjust the defense to the talent. I believed him. Now I’m watching offenses run through it, complete passes, and convert third downs at a rate Dallas can’t let happen.

Parker needs to make changes, because I’m done giving him credit for describing a defense I hoped we were getting. Instead, we just have last year’s defense with better players.

Did you really convince yourself that on game one this defense would be all that and a bag of chips? It takes time and I figured we would have to wait at least another year and a few players would need subtracted or added in order for this defense to be any good. Instant gratification isn't on this menu but one of patients and waiting. I saw a 2 year turn around not the one year most expected. CP has his flaws too and they need corrected as well. We've had retreads already, JJ went out and found him a new inexperenced one so we have to realize that and live with the growing pains. It is painful to watch but so were the early Landry and Johnson teams and they both led us to happier times but not at first.

The bottom line is that our pass rushers are so bad that we need to send five or six to get serious pressure.

Our best pass rusher is a guy who, in seven years, has one year with more than 7 sacks. And he’s also our only decent run defender. He’s not Aaron Donald, which is what he needs to be.

The defense drafted a true playmaker in 2020 and didn’t draft another one until this year. Four years without a single impact player so we’re praying for three rookies to play at a pro bowl level in the first games of their career.

I don’t care who the coordinator ends up being but Jerry better give them a true pass rusher.
I’m not arguing against your point that our pass rush and pass rushers are not good. However, there are other teams in the nfl that also have crappy pass rushers. There is no excuse for the defense being THIS bad. Sure it can suck, there are deficiencies from a talent perspective. But goodness me, we should not be this pathetic defensively.

For 3 years this has been a disaster. I’ve never seen anything like it. 3 DC’s, and a bevy of different players and still the same results. Baffling really

To sum it up quickly, The opposing teams pocket is way too clean and we cannot get off the field. Parker has to show improvement or he will be removed with Shotty at the end of the season
Or at least we hope so.....but with Jerry you never know. He will come up with excuses like injuries, first year as a DC, needing time to learn his system, the funny shaped ball bouncing the wrong way, or the sun setting in the west, and some other crap smelling alibi.

I'm beginning to feel my spidey vibes telling me Jerry will keep both after the season. The only way he fires CP is if the media and fans lay this all on his feet and ridicule him, make it personal.

Coverage:
- They've tried playing Bland in Zone coverage.
- They've tried playing Bland in Man coverage.
- They tried playing Bland on the Boundry (short) side.
- They've tried playing Bland on the Field (wide) side.

Changes:
- They have to find a way to reduce Bland's snaps.
- They have to find a way to get Reddy Steward off the field.

I agree with you. Being the absolute worst not acceptable.

he is beyond stupid,i had such hopes from him and he conned everybody cant even manage to align guys properly let alone call plays.

It’s easy to say this, but the real question is whether Parker’s scheme and playcalling are the problem or if it’s the execution which suffers both from too many guys doing their own thing and a terrible group of LBs and edges, along with injuries to the safeties.

This team was toast as soon as Schotty was hired. How many D coordinators does it take to realize the problem is the head coach and a handful of players on defense that are unplayable?

If you watch the all 22 you’ll see times where players are in the right place, but they don’t handle the basics well, like just making a tackle.

I only see 3 options that they an implement immediately:

1: Coverage Changes:
- Porter plays man full time on the Boundry side.
- Bland plays Nickel for now.
- Downs has to play Safety until Thompson or Locke return.
- Revel or Ameer Speed play the other outside CB position.
---- Let Revel/Speed play some man and some zone. Evaluate results.
2: Blitz

3: Play to prevent to big run plays.
- If the DL and LBs don't stop the run, then have DBs in position to limit the gain to 10 yards.
- On the big runs by the Bucs, nobody was back away from the line.

I've been saying this since we first got a look at his defense....he needs to scheme to his players, even he said it....problem is, he's not! He's trying to force feed a screaming child and it's not working. Give that kid a candy. Back off, simplify, build a little confidence and then force feed that brat!!!!
Lol

I can understand the defense looking shoddy the first game, the second and even the third. What I cannot fathom is that Parker is not making any significant adjustments. There is no pass rush. What do teams do when they can't generate enough pressure? The rush 5 and 6 guys. Yup, that exposes the secondary to big plays. But I'd rather that than those long time consuming drives that keep my high caliber offense off the field.

I do not think the problem is personnel. I think it is scheme first then some personnel issues.
CP aka Kid Wonder, loves Cover Read.

Remember when many on this forum were wringing their hands at the prospect that Parker would be poached by another NFL team after just one season in Dallas?

Shocking how many people still fall for the shell game that Jerry and his Spags media clones are playing on them.

Every. Single. Year.
