Actually I was speculating that they might trade one for a Spears/Ferguson combination to help solidify their front 7.

But since they only have one and a boatload of needs, that's probably out.....

If we were to trade both Spears and Ferguson for a second round pick, that would rank up there with the trade we made with Minnesota in the late 1980s. We would be extremely dumb to make that trade. While not spectacular, Spears is solid, especially against the run. He was also a first round draft pick. Ferguson is also solid, though he is in the twilight of his career.

I think it's a matter of perspective.

I would have no problems turing Spears and Ferguson into a high 2nd round draft choice. Not to mention the salaries that would come off the books.

I think Hatcher, Bowen, Tank Johnson, and Ratliff could more than fill the void.

What 'doodoo' do you refer to?

Guys that won't make our team. Parcells isnt trading his draft picks for folks he can sign off the street soon. We WAY WAY overvalue our own players.

Which guys do you mean specifically?

My idea had us trading Spears and Ferguson.

Any thoughts on that?

They only have 1 and they're not giving that 1 up for Ferguson, or any one player on Dallas outside of Tony Romo, who obviously isn't an option for them.

They have 2. They picked up San Diego's in the Chambers trade.

I'm pretty sure Parcells would be all over Canty or Barber if the Cowboys were dumb enough to give them a 2nd round tender.

Here's a hypothetical:

Giving Canty the 2nd round designation to entice the Dolphins into going after him?

They would be giving up their 2nd rounder - which would be the #32 overall pick - essentially a 1st rounder.

Downside would be if another team with a lower pick offered him a contract.

But why even chance losing a skilled DE like Canty? Just give him the highest tender and workout a contract.

It was just a thought.

A hypothetical based on what people felt was more valuable.

A "#1 draft choice" or a solid player on the verge of a big-money contract?

Guys like Araon Smith and Richard Seymour have shown that 3-4 ends can be impact players.

It was more or less an attempt to get a conveersation started.

The Dolphins do have 2 second rounders and I've thought how much we could use either of those picks -- more likely the lower one which is around the 50th pick.

There's no doubt Canty will be back.

Also believe we keep Ferguson because I think it obviously we really like Ratliff at DE (remember rumors at Senior bowl we shopping Spears & Carpenter) so Ferguson & Tank will handle DT duties. Besides Ferguson has 2 more years left on his contract and if we trade him it pushes forward the cap hit.

Also believe CBrown (coaching staff really likes him and he's a really good ST).

Last year we carried 2 FBs (Hoyte & Anderson) and probably will do same again. Anderson will beat out Hoyte as our starter this year but since Hoyte can only block we'll might pick up/draft another FB who can contribute more to the offense. Schmitt might be good if we can get him in the 5th round.
