Clarence Hill: Look for the Cowboys to draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round

Just saying, why the team decided to extend Zeke, but not Murray. It's a mute point now.

The team decided to extend Elliott and not Murray because the two in charge somehow lost their marbles between the 2015 offseason and when it came time to draft and then pay Elliott. They knew after the 2014 season that Murray was a FA so they had long prepared for what they wanted to do. Elliott was still under contract and made a threat to not play and Jerry panicked.

One of the worst decisions of the last decade.

And I wouldn’t be surprised at all if someone like Watson or Pickens are the best WR from this class in 3 years when the dust settles.

All of these dudes have their pros and cons but they’re all fairly close IMO. No one standing out as a lock top talent.
Pickens was supposed to be the guy this year, the stud WR.

Agree with the risk part, it is a risk.

I would feel better about that if he had fewer drops with those monstrous 10.5" hands. Hell, that's throwing the ball into a laundry basket. However, in his defense he ran in traffic a lot and was always about what he was going to do with the ball and forgot one critical factor.

Burks is not like Witten, he seldom though about what he was going to do with the ball except go down.

I'm not a fan of Burks at 24. The only receiver that I would consider at 24 is Olave. I'm hoping that they get lucky again and trade back from 24. A trade back that netted them Linderbaum and one of the guards in the third either Smith or Ingram would work for me. Throw in a receiver in the 2nd either Dotson, Watson, Pickens, Tolbert, or Moore. Then get the te that you need either Woods, Ferguson, or Kolar. I like the way that the draft lines up for the Cowboys.

I like SMU's Danny Gray as much as quite a few of these options and probably a 5th Round Pick build the trenches in first 2 rounds
I think we are going to see a WR taken within the 1st 3 rounds, but it wouldn't surprise if they doubled up, either.

I agree, it's going to be your flavor of ice cream, who is your best fit. Same can be said about the Edge position, but that will dry up faster. It is very possible they can land 1 real good 2nd tier WR, along with a Sam Williams on day 2. Think many would be happy with that outcome.

Don’t forget handing the reigns to Joseph Randle in between!

I sure won’t!

Watson is getting some 1st round hype now. I don't see him lasting to our second pick.

Pickens is my favorite WR. He's just never healthy. When healthy he is one of if not the best prospect IMO
I agree, big fan of Pickens myself. Actually don't see a huge separation from the 1st tier and 2nd tier players at the position.

If I got an O-lineman and pass rusher in rounds - and 2, I’d be more than fine taking a receiver in the 3rd. If that receiver in round 3 was Calvin Austin, I’d be dancing!

We need more of this

If the value is right I like Edge/LG in rounds 1 and 2 in no order and then WR in rounds 3 or 4.

Think that's the top 3 priorities, with TE/LB more day 3 picks. I really like Travis Jones and his potential impact, I may prefer him over an Edge, but the front office probably sees it the other way. We could always sign a veteran fa pass rusher and still draft a developmental guy such as a player like Alex Wright from UAB who I heard the Cowboys like.

I think he is in that 3rd-4th rd range so it's a real possibility. Does he offer special teams abilities?

Not early if they do they screwed this up.....I dont mind them doubling up from 4th round to 7th round on WR's but in those first
3 rounds 2-OL and 1-DE/DT

If we were doing the picking, but I don’t think they see it that way depending on their board

I have earmarked a day 2 receiver for weeks. I believe this team feels that the #3 WR is viewed like another starter. Either teams play two TE's or more 3 WR packages.
I think the way Dak throws the football and the way Kellen calls plays, the Cowboys would rather play the two tight ends (twelve personnel) It plays towards Dak’s strength and teams can’t figure out if the Cowboys are running the ball or passing. The Cowboys need to get the running game back. That is the key to next season.

Then TE is a huge need

You kind of been saying a second tight end would improve the running game. The Cowboys running offense was rolling early because of 12 personnel. The Chargers game was 12 personnel played to perfection.
