Someone from TX wrote the following:
That stadium is a joke. They bill it as the largest stadium in Texas, but completely forgot about the Texas Motor Speedway. They spent thousands of taxpayer's money, used Eminent Domain to force the oldest part of Arlington out of their homes without compensation, and created a stadium that looks almost exactly like University of Phoenix Stadium.

Even if you are a Cowboys fan, the way they built this stadium is a shame and should be recorded. Even if you can get past that, the fact that it is a boring look and a generic hunk of steel is a mess.
This was written at Operationsports.com Wasn't happy to read this though not surprised. Was curious what some TX residents have to say. I live up in NJ.:

Well, first of all let's talk about uninformed. The Dallas Cowboys cannot use eminent domain because they are not the Government. Second regarding that they cannot do it without compensation if they could do it. But since they can't it is a moot point.

Race tracks are not considered stadiums. A stadium is an enclosed building.

They spent hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars not thousands.

It does not look like the University of Phoenix Stadium and this person's contention that it is ugly is his opinion, not a fact.

Basically he's just a bitter jerk who doesn't have a clue about anything. And I don't even live in Texas to know this stuff.

He's probably a Commanders fan. They're ill informed about a lot of stuff.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought what he wrote didn't make sense. Guess a knee jerk reaction to post it here. Like you always say Hos, "embrace the hate!"

Race tracks are generally not considered stadiums, but in the most technical sense I guess they could be.

Whoever posted this is just a hater. If you look around, damn near everytime a stadium or anything like a stadium is built, Imminent Domain occurs, unless it's built in the boondocks. Even then, someone loses property since no propery within the US does not have a deed attached. Imminent Domain exist for a reason. The reason is for the advancement of the community. Imminent Domain requires via the Fifth Amendment that fair value to be paid for any property lost due to Imminent Domain. While someone may not want to move, the advancement of the community comes before the want and wills of a single person.

Okay technically the land was taken by Eminent Domain and for exactly the reasons you state here. The City of Arlington being the Government to use Eminent Domain for economic growth reasons.

The fact remains that every property owner who had their property taken was compensated. They cannot take the property without compensation. Now, some can claim they weren't compensated enough because of their own personal greed. But they were compensated and it is usually an Independent assessor who values the land.

I do feel for the people who had their land taken from them, even if most of them were paid 3x the value, and that still was probably not enough for those people to buy a new home in a safe quiet neighborhood.

However, for anyone who lives around here or has been to the ballpark and driven around, You will know what I am saying....I wish they would go buy all the small businesses around the surrounding area. There are some serious shacks all over the place, its horrendous looking.

anyway.

If anyone has a complaint about the stadium it should be the fans. There is a funeral home at one of the main entrances from Cowboys Way. That has to be a bad omen having that Funeral home basically as the closest business to the new stadium.

If I remember correctly, some of those neighborhoods torn down were high crime areas as well...

I never liked the location in Arlington and always thought it should have been in Dallas.

With that said, it is in Arlington and they will just have to do some things like widening the streets (they are already widening i-30) and as Theebs said, the surrounding area is not that pretty.

Hmmm, in Arlington, alot of the high crime is associated with East Arlington (Highway 360, New York etc etc)and the Stadium is not located on that side.

Well on the lighter side, Ian Cummings from EA wrote,
IGN I think will be getting some gameplay footage soon (not exactly sure when but we just sent it off) and it's the Eagles @ Dallas in the new stadium so that will be most people's first look.

The thing that is unreal to me is the GIANT shadow that the scoreboard casts on the field during normal day games while the roof is open. You guys won't believe it either...it's crazy. I played through a whole game and I was like "why the hell is it so dark right through the middle of the field?" until I looked up in instant replay.

Can' wait to see this in the game. Finally Madden10 is moving in the right direction all in all. :star:

Since I have lived here that is what I have been told and seen also.

The area with the stadium is not the greatest, but I dont think crime is a big issue, west of collins there are nice stores and a couple of restaraunts...

East of it is another story.

The downside is generally the neighborhoods seized aren't worth saving except to the people who lived there. Some all their lives. And some had retired in paid off homes. They often don't have the money and at times credit to buy another home with the same room. So there are losers despite generally getting more than their home was worth.
