CLEMENTS BLOWS OUT THE CURVE
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the San Francisco 49ers have signed cornerback Nate Clements.
It's a mind-boggling eight-year, $80 million deal, with $22 million in guaranteed money, and it makes Clements the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
A league source tells us that, as a practical matter, it's a six-year deal worth $7.25 million per year.
Clements was expected to be pursued by several teams. But he never got out of San Fran.

Honestly, that kind of $$$$$ would keep me in San Fran! :starspin

Clements isn't even that good!

If Adalius Thomas signed earlier today and finds out he got a smaller signing bonus than the new Highest Paid Defensive Player in Football, there might be one dead agent in New England right now. :laugh2:

What the hell can't you do with $15 million that you can do with $17 million. These guys are utterly ridiculous.

This round of free agency is getting ugly very quickly.

I'll take how to handicap a franchise for a decade alex for a thousand.

In six seasons, he has 23 interceptions- check that out- 80 million for fewer than 4 INT's a season.....

That is just unreal! Those kind of salaries are going to make drafting that much more important.

Careful. The Newman toadies will remind you that INTs aren't necessarily a reflection of superior CB play.

hahaha i cannot believe how ignorant some of you are, Clements has been to the Pro Bowl twice 02 and 04, he is one the most consitant CBs in the league, definitely top 5 CB, the guy is a physical beast.

Clements isnt making 80 mil, he's dued 37 mil in his 7-8th year, money he will never see.

remember that Seattle and Burleson deal? 7 year 49 mil? it was really a 4 year - 14.5 mil deal because of how it was set up, i thought most NFL fans would know this, especially the ones who cruise the internet and forums about their team.

Man Clements is not worth that kind of money, sorry. I'd take Champ Bailey and T. Newman over him. I wonder how much money Newman will demand next year, he better still be a Cowboy!

Per NFLN scrolling along the bottom.

All that cap space being put to use in San Fran.

$80 mill for Clements has to be the dumbest contract in the history of the NFL.

Noway is Clements even close to being that good, his last Probowl was like 2004 and he is making more than Champ Bailey now.

$80 mill for CB that averages 4 picks a yr over his career and has not been to the Probowl since 2004 has got to be the most ******** signing of all time.

:laugh2:
